Real Gone Dominates at Gulfstream Park

Real Gone produced one of the more striking juvenile performances on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, overcoming an unremarkable debut to run away with a six-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds. The Patrick Biancone-trained homebred surged clear in Race 4 to win by 8½ lengths, giving the stable an immediate reason to look ahead to stronger company.

Ridden by J.G. Torrealba, the Kentucky-bred son of Olympiad was quickly into his stride on the main track and took command after the opening quarter-mile in 22.60 seconds. The pace remained solid through the next stages, with the half-mile reached in 46.67 and five furlongs in 59.31.

From there, Real Gone began to separate himself from the field. The colt crossed the finish line in 1:12.61, leaving Eyeway to finish second.

The performance marked a sharp turnaround from Real Gone’s first start on Aug. 2, when the colt finished fourth in a 7½-furlong maiden special weight on turf. The switch to dirt, along with the addition of blinkers, produced an entirely different performance.

Biancone had indicated before the race that the colt’s future could lie on the main track, and Saturday’s result strengthened that view. With such an emphatic victory already on the board, a stakes assignment is now likely to be the next step for Real Gone.

The Gulfstream Park card also produced another notable juvenile winner in Race 6, where Conviction made a successful debut in a five-furlong maiden special weight for Florida-breds.

Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. and ridden by Rasheed Hughes, the son of Tiz the Law was sent forward from the backstretch and maintained his advantage to score by three lengths in 1:00.02. Little Prince finished second, with EZ David third.

Conviction had been purchased for $800,000 at the OBS April 2-year-olds-in-training sale and entered the afternoon with considerable attention around his debut. The manner of the victory provided a strong first impression.

Joseph enjoyed a productive afternoon overall, with Guns and Coffee winning Race 8 and Jestina taking Race 9. The trainer also remains firmly in contention for the Royal Palm Meet title, holding a 33-22 advantage over Victor Barboza Jr. with five racing days remaining.

Samy Camacho also made significant progress in the Royal Palm Meet jockey standings on Saturday, taking three races while the leading Diego Herrera was away at Del Mar.

Camacho began the afternoon with Relentless Lady in Race 1, followed by Sky Over Kingston in Race 3 and Call the Bullpen in Race 7. The treble moved him to within two victories of Herrera.

Herrera leads 81-79 with five days remaining. The schedule gives Herrera eight mounts on Sunday and six on Monday, while Camacho is named on eight Sunday rides and two Monday mounts, setting up a close finish to the jockeys’ championship.

For Real Gone, however, the attention will now turn beyond the current meeting. The six-furlong performance was not merely a first victory; it was a decisive indication that the colt may have found the surface and distance combination that suits him best.

With a wide margin, a fast final time and a possible stakes assignment ahead, Real Gone Gulfstream Park emerged as one of Saturday’s clearest juvenile stories.
