Artemus Citylimits rolled back the years at Woodbine on Sunday, leading from the outset to become a back-to-back winner of the $150,000 Vice Regent Stakes.

The nine-year-old gelding showed the same determination that carried him to victory in the 2025 renewal, when he also made all the running. This time, with Eswan Flores in the saddle and Audrey Cheung taking charge of the stable, there was little doubt about the outcome once the field turned for home.
The Ontario-bred runner broke sharply in the five-furlong inner-turf contest for three-year-olds and older horses and soon established control. Flores kept him comfortably within himself through the opening quarter-mile, reached in :22.02, with Mister Blue tracking along the rail and Light the Lamp racing just outside.
Dark Screen followed the leading trio, while Outlaw Kid and Cost of War occupied the next two positions.
Light the Lamp moved into striking range approaching the quarter-pole, but Artemus Citylimits had plenty left. Flores asked for another effort and the veteran responded, opening up in the straight to score by 1 3/4 lengths.
The half-mile came in :44.39, while the winner completed the five furlongs in :56.02 on a firm course.
The success was particularly significant for Cheung, who is in her first season as a licensed trainer. It marked the first stakes victory of her career and extended Artemus Citylimits’ record to 10 wins from 48 starts.
Flores has developed a strong understanding of the veteran, having partnered him on several occasions. The latest victory was also his third in succession aboard the gelding.
Cheung had prepared Artemus Citylimits carefully following his July 5 success. His preparation included two three-furlong drills on the main track, highlighted by a particularly sharp :36.60 effort on August 7 that was the quickest of 13 horses working that day.
The plan was to have Artemus Citylimits forward from the beginning, and Flores carried it out with precision.
Artemus Citylimits, bred in Ontario by Gunpowder Farms LLC and owned by Dwight D. Baron, now owns a career record of 10-11-12 from 48 starts. His record at five furlongs on turf stands at three wins, one second and four thirds from 13 attempts.
Outlaw Kid, a two-time winner of the Vice Regent Stakes, finished second after making his challenge in the closing stages. Light the Lamp was third, with Dark Screen fourth.
For a horse now well into his ninth year, Artemus Citylimits continues to produce performances that belie his experience. His latest victory also gave the veteran a second straight Vice Regent Stakes title and provided Cheung with an important early milestone in her training career.
