Yorkshire Oaks to Feature on York Race Cards 20 August

The Yorkshire Oaks will occupy a central position on the Thursday card and will provide the day’s principal Group 1 test. The 1m 3f 199y distance will place particular emphasis on stamina, while the nine-runner field will give the contest a compact shape.

The £600,000 prize fund will make the race one of the most valuable contests on the programme. Its Group 1 status will also ensure that the Yorkshire Oaks will carry considerable importance for the runners involved.

The jockey line-up will add further interest to the contest. Colin Keane, Ryan Moore, Edward Greatrex and James Doyle will take their places among the riders for the feature, while Oisin Murphy, Dylan Browne McMonagle, William Buick, Rossa Ryan and R. P. Whelan will also be in action.

The runners will face a longer trip than the standard mile and quarter, making race management an important factor. The field will need to maintain a suitable rhythm before producing their strongest efforts during the closing stages.

The York circuit will provide the setting for the Group 1 contest, with the runners due to go to post at 3:35pm. The race will form one of the key points of the afternoon and will bring together a strong collection of runners and jockeys for the valuable prize.

The presence of three-year-olds alongside older horses will give the race an interesting age profile. The combination of youth and experience will provide another dimension to a contest that will already feature a demanding distance and a substantial prize fund.

The Yorkshire Oaks will therefore provide a major test at York on Thursday. With nine runners scheduled to compete over 1m 3f 199y, the Group 1 feature will stand out on a card that will offer another significant afternoon of racing at the historic venue.
