Magical Trickster maintained an unbeaten record with a determined victory in the $150,000 Frost King Stakes, while Stunningly Perfect completed a hat-trick with success in the $150,000 South Ocean Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday, October 18, 2026. The two juvenile contests highlighted promising performances from Ontario-bred runners, with both winners strengthening their credentials for future assignments.

Magical Trickster Wins Frost King Stakes at Woodbine

Magical Trickster extended an impressive start to a racing career with a second consecutive victory in the $150,000 Frost King Stakes at Woodbine. The two-year-old chestnut, trained by Julia Carey and owned by Derek Chin, stepped up to seven furlongs on the main track and proved equal to the challenge.

Ridden for the first time by Woodbine’s leading jockey, Pietro Moran, Magical Trickster broke sharply from post position four in a field of six. Marvellous Marvin established an early advantage, leading by a length over Magical Trickster through the opening stages. Souper Survivor, winner of the Bull Page Stakes, settled into third, followed by Signature Winner, Slovan and It Wasn’t a Bluff.

Marvellous Marvin continued to dictate the pace approaching the turn, with Magical Trickster maintaining a close position. Souper Survivor remained in contention as the field passed the half-mile marker in 45.42 seconds.

The race took a decisive turn in the stretch. Moran asked Magical Trickster to increase the pressure, and the youngster responded with a strong finishing effort. Moving past Marvellous Marvin on the outside inside the sixteenth pole, Magical Trickster pulled clear to win by 1¾ lengths in a final time of 1:23.25.

Marvellous Marvin held second, while Souper Survivor finished third. It Wasn’t a Bluff completed the first four.

The Frost King Stakes victory followed an encouraging debut at Woodbine on September 13, when Magical Trickster won over five and a half furlongs by the same margin of 1¾ lengths. Emma-Jayne Wilson partnered the colt on that occasion but was committed to Souper Survivor for Sunday’s contest, opening the door for Moran to take the ride.

Moran had already worked with Magical Trickster and understood that the youngster needed encouragement throughout his races. The jockey’s familiarity with the horse proved valuable as the distance increased.

Purchased for C$63,000 as a yearling at the Canadian September 2025 Yearling Sale, Magical Trickster is bred in Ontario by Huntington Stud Farm Corp. The son of Collusion Illusion, out of Samsal, by Consolidator, remains unbeaten after two starts and has now secured his first stakes victory.

Carey had given the youngster two breezes following his debut success and was encouraged by the prospect of gradually increasing the distance in future outings. With two wins from two starts, Magical Trickster has made a promising beginning to his career in Ontario’s breeding programme.

Stunningly Perfect Completes Hat-Trick in South Ocean Stakes

Stunningly Perfect continued a remarkable run of form at Woodbine, capturing the $150,000 South Ocean Stakes to record a third consecutive victory and her second straight stakes success.

Trained by Steven Chircop, the two-year-old filly entered the seven-furlong contest after winning the Victorian Queen Stakes. Although slow to leave the stalls from post position two, she quickly settled into third under jockey Jose Campos.

Whitemudwest led the field through the opening quarter-mile in 23.11 seconds, with Sarayu racing alongside in second. Stunningly Perfect tracked the leading pair on the inside, while Tea Biscuit occupied fourth. Tweeternity, Champagne Sunday and Matoaka followed behind.

As the field approached the turn, Campos began asking his mount for a stronger effort. Stunningly Perfect responded by moving into second along the rail, with the half-mile reached in 46.50 seconds.

The contest developed into a direct challenge between Stunningly Perfect and the even-money favourite Sarayu inside the quarter pole. The pair remained closely matched before Stunningly Perfect gained the upper hand with a furlong remaining.

Once in front, the filly maintained her momentum to cross the finish line 1¼ lengths clear in 1:23.64. Sarayu finished second, with Matoaka taking third and Tea Biscuit fourth.

The result continued a significant improvement in Stunningly Perfect’s career since joining Chircop’s stable. Originally trained by Steve Attard, she broke her maiden by more than seven lengths in her second career start, with Wilson aboard.

Campos subsequently partnered the filly to a 1½-length victory in the Victorian Queen Stakes, marking her first stakes success. Sunday’s performance confirmed that the earlier win was no isolated achievement.

Bred in Ontario by Charles Fipke and owned by Zilli Racing Stables, Stunningly Perfect is a daughter of Perfect Timber out of Uncle’s Gem, by Uncle Mo. Her record now stands at three wins and one third-place finish from four starts, including three consecutive victories since moving to Chircop’s barn.

The latest success has also opened the possibility of testing the filly over longer distances. Her connections have nominated her for a Grade 3 contest over a longer trip, although future plans will depend on her progress.

With both Magical Trickster and Stunningly Perfect producing authoritative performances, Sunday’s programme at Woodbine offered encouraging signs for Ontario-sired juveniles. Magical Trickster preserved a perfect record through two starts, while Stunningly Perfect extended her winning sequence to three, giving both runners a strong platform for the next stage of their careers.
