Odenkirk and Lamirada produced two commanding performances at Woodbine on Sunday, October 11, 2026, as the unbeaten juveniles claimed the Display Stakes and Glorious Song Stakes respectively. Both runners established themselves as horses to follow after impressive victories over seven furlongs on the synthetic track, with Odenkirk winning by five and three-quarter lengths and Lamirada pulling clear by eight and a quarter lengths.

The double highlighted the strength of Woodbine’s two-year-old division, with Odenkirk maintaining a perfect record in his second career start and Lamirada returning to winning form after her previous appearance on turf.

Odenkirk Maintains Unbeaten Record in Display Stakes

Odenkirk made a powerful impression in the $125,000 Display Stakes, controlling the seven-furlong contest and pulling away in the straight to secure a dominant victory for trainer Mark Casse and owner D J Stable LLC.

Originally scheduled to feature five runners, the race was reduced to four after Quipster was withdrawn on veterinary advice at the starting gate. Breaking from post position two, Odenkirk made slight contact with Uncle Dodo before quickly establishing control of the race.

The juvenile settled into the lead ahead of Unbridled Freedom, while Verge and Uncle Dodo followed closely behind. Odenkirk maintained a steady rhythm through the early stages, recording an opening quarter-mile in 23.37 seconds before reaching the half-mile mark in 46.58 seconds.

Approaching the final turn, jockey Rafael Hernandez briefly looked back at the field before asking Odenkirk to extend his advantage. The response was immediate. The colt accelerated into the straight and steadily increased the margin, crossing the finish line five and three-quarter lengths clear in a final time of 1:22.30. The six-furlong split was recorded in 1:10.14.

Uncle Dodo finished second after making progress in the closing stages, while Verge took third and Unbridled Freedom completed the order in fourth on his local debut.

The victory continued an encouraging start to Odenkirk’s career. On September 26, the son of Nyquist had won on his Woodbine debut over six furlongs on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course. Settling in second before making his move late, the colt drew clear to win by one and three-quarter lengths.

Bred in Ontario by Anderson Farms Inc., Odenkirk was purchased by D J Stable LLC for $130,000 at the 2025 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. His Display Stakes success also marked his first victory on synthetic footing, taking his record to two wins from two starts.

Hernandez, who recorded his 3,500th North American career victory earlier on Sunday’s programme, partnered the colt for both of his Woodbine appearances. The jockey was particularly pleased with the way Odenkirk responded when asked to quicken in the straight, with the colt showing the ability to find another gear without being fully extended.

Lamirada Wins Glorious Song Stakes by Eight and a Quarter Lengths

Lamirada delivered an equally emphatic performance in the $125,000 Glorious Song Stakes, dominating the seven-furlong contest for two-year-old fillies and extending her unbeaten record on synthetic surfaces.

Starting from the outside post in a seven-runner field, Lamirada broke sharply under regular rider Fraser Aebly and settled just behind From Time to Time during the opening stages. She soon moved to the front, taking the lead as the field passed the opening two-furlong split in 22.29 seconds.

Madeleine Swann tracked the leaders along the rail in third, with Traction Park positioned just behind. Hope Is a Breeze, Epic Affair and Cattrall followed as the field approached the halfway point.

Lamirada increased the pressure through the middle stages, opening a two-length advantage while recording a half-mile in 44.87 seconds. She continued to travel comfortably around the turn, saving ground before moving into the straight with plenty in reserve.

Once Aebly allowed her to stretch out, Lamirada quickly put the race beyond reach. She accelerated clear inside the final furlong and cruised to an eight-and-a-quarter-length victory in 1:21.29.

Her winning time was almost a full second quicker than Odenkirk’s in the Display Stakes, contested earlier on the same card. The comparison underlined the quality of both performances, with Lamirada producing a particularly striking display of speed and control.

Bred in Ontario and owned by her breeder, Mark Dodson, Lamirada made a winning debut at Woodbine on August 8, taking a six-furlong main-track sprint by 11 and three-quarter lengths. Her Glorious Song success lifted her record to two wins from three starts, with both victories coming on Tapeta by a combined margin of 20 lengths.

The Army Mule filly had previously contested the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes on turf, where she led much of the way before finishing seventh. Her return to synthetic footing brought an immediate improvement in results.

Trainer Josie Carroll, a four-time King’s Plate-winning conditioner, had three runners in the Glorious Song and was particularly impressed by Lamirada’s ability to maintain a strong pace without appearing under pressure. The filly had completed two workouts following the Natalma, including a five-furlong main-track exercise in 59.00 seconds on October 2.

Carroll indicated that Lamirada could be considered for the local two-turn Princess Elizabeth Stakes on November 28, although her next assignment had not been confirmed.

Woodbine Juveniles Make a Strong Statement

The Display Stakes and Glorious Song Stakes provided a memorable double for Woodbine’s emerging two-year-old talent. Odenkirk demonstrated his ability to sustain speed and finish decisively, while Lamirada showed how effectively she could combine early pace with a powerful finishing effort.

Both winners remain unbeaten on their respective records following their latest successes, and their performances offered encouraging signs for the remainder of the juvenile season.

With Odenkirk now successful on both turf and synthetic surfaces, and Lamirada establishing herself as a formidable performer on Tapeta, their next appearances will be closely followed as Woodbine’s young runners continue their development.
