Dixie Law produced a resolute performance to capture the Wonder Where Stakes 2026, defeating Katie’s Grace by a neck in Sunday’s $250,000 feature at Woodbine. The 10-furlong turf contest for Canadian-bred three-year-old fillies culminated in a thrilling finish, with Dixie Law showing considerable tenacity to repel her principal challenger in the closing stages.

Trained by Dale Desruisseaux and owned by Hillsbrook Farms, Dixie Law was ridden by Pietro Moran for the third consecutive race. The victory marked Moran’s first success aboard the filly and added another notable achievement to her developing career.

Wonder Where Stakes 2026 Adds Another Notable Turf Achievement

Dixie Law broke alertly from post two and settled into the second flight along the inside of La Culasse as Cool Times, ridden by Rafael Hernandez, established a strong early advantage.

Cool Times led by five lengths after a quarter-mile in :25.25 and extended that margin to 7½ lengths after the half-mile in :49.09. The order remained largely unchanged through six furlongs, which were completed in 1:13.16.

Two and a half furlongs from the finish, Moran asked Dixie Law to improve. She moved forward steadily, passed the tiring Cool Times on the outside and took command approaching the final quarter-mile. The mile was reached in 1:38.58, with Dixie Law carrying her momentum into the closing stages.

Katie’s Grace, making her turf debut after winning the Bison City Stakes, emerged as the principal threat. Ryan Munger guided her widest around the sweeping E.P. Taylor Turf Course turn before launching her challenge through the final three-sixteenths.

Dixie Law refused to surrender the advantage, holding Katie’s Grace at bay to prevail by a neck in 2:03.75. Ashlee B finished third, while Bold Time completed the first four.

The result gave Dixie Law her third turf victory from four starts on the surface and improved her overall record to five wins, one second and one third from 10 career starts.

Her turf campaign began with a 1½-length maiden victory over six furlongs on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course. She subsequently finished sixth in the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes before returning to winning form in the 2025 Cup & Saucer Stakes, where she defeated male rivals over Woodbine’s inner turf course.

She later added the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes on the main track and was named a finalist for the 2025 Sovereign Award in the two-year-old filly category.

As a three-year-old, Dixie Law won the seven-furlong Ruling Angel Stakes by a nose with Hernandez aboard and subsequently finished third in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes. She then placed second in the Woodbine Oaks behind Luster, who went on to win the King’s Plate, before finishing fourth in the King’s Plate after encountering a difficult trip.

Dixie Law arrived at the Wonder Where Stakes 2026 after a quiet preparation. Her only published work before the race came on August 30, when she covered three furlongs in :36.00 over Woodbine’s local training turf.

Desruisseaux had deliberately kept the filly fresh, noting that she had not missed a start during the year and had been given an easy two-minute exercise over the grass between races.

Moran praised Dixie Law’s competitive nature after the race, highlighting the determination she showed when Katie’s Grace drew alongside her in the closing stages. Desruisseaux also suggested that the filly’s preferred surface may ultimately prove to be turf, although he emphasised her versatility.

The filly was bred in Ontario by Garland E. Williamson and is by Tiz the Law out of Bit of Dixie, a daughter of Union Rags. Williamson also had a personal connection to the race, having won the 2006 Wonder Where Stakes with Like a Gem.

Williamson confirmed that Dixie Law was expected to return as a four-year-old, with her affinity for grass making turf racing an important part of her future campaign.

The Wonder Where Stakes 2026 saw Dixie Law withstand a late challenge from Katie’s Grace to secure a narrow victory over 10 furlongs on Woodbine’s E.P. Taylor Turf Course. The result further strengthened her record on turf and added another significant stakes success to her three-year-old campaign.
