St. Moritz Racecourse will prepare to mark a major milestone in February 2027 as White Turf St. Moritz 2027 will celebrate 120 years of international horse racing on the frozen Lake St. Moritz. The anniversary edition will combine three race Sundays with historical exhibitions, a special parade, live art and family events, bringing together the heritage and continuing development of one of the world’s distinctive winter racing venues.
The three racing Sundays will take place on February 7, 14 and 21, while White Turf Family Days will be held on February 13 and 20. The celebrations will follow the theme “120 Years of Fascination – Snow | Dynamism | Courage | Elegance” and will connect the event’s early history with its present identity and future direction.
The 2027 celebrations will look back to 1907, when international horse racing will have begun at St. Moritz, and will highlight how the event will have developed alongside the Engadin region. Horse racing, skijoring, winter tourism and social life will all feature in the story presented during the anniversary programme.
The anniversary activities will place this history at the centre of the 2027 celebrations. Historical personalities, sporting milestones and important developments from twelve decades will be presented through several activities planned around the race meetings.
Thomas Walther, president of the St. Moritz Racing Club, will highlight the importance of the anniversary. He will describe the 120-year milestone as an opportunity to make the people, stories and memorable moments connected with the event more visible, while also showing how tradition and innovation will continue to form part of its identity.
White Turf St. Moritz 2027 Will Present 120 Years of History
A historical exhibition will form one of the main attractions of White Turf St. Moritz 2027. A festival tent at the event venue will present a chronological journey from 1907 to 2027, using historical photographs, documents and stories to illustrate the development of the meeting.
The exhibition will also explore the history of skijoring and the transformation of St. Moritz, including changes in social life and winter tourism. Digital material will complement the historical displays and will provide visitors with additional insight into different periods of the event.
A special anniversary magazine will also be produced, featuring stories, personalities and milestones from 120 years of White Turf history.
Anniversary Parade Will Revisit White Turf History
A jubilee parade on Lake St. Moritz will provide another major feature of the anniversary programme. The presentation will revisit different eras, personalities and significant moments from 120 years of White Turf.
The parade will trace the meeting’s journey from its pioneering years through the development of skijoring and into the modern era. Historical elements will be combined with contemporary interpretations to present the event’s long sporting and cultural connection with St. Moritz.
Art and craftsmanship will also have a prominent place during the celebrations. Samedan-based artist and wood sculptor Nora Engels, together with other artists, will create a live art project on the frozen lake.
The wooden sculptures will focus on themes including horses, nature, movement, winter and tradition. Once completed, the artworks will be auctioned for a charitable cause, extending the anniversary programme beyond the racing itself.
The five-day programme of racing and family activities will give visitors several opportunities to experience the 120th anniversary. The race Sundays on February 7, 14 and 21 will form the sporting core of the celebrations, while the Family Days on February 13 and 20 will provide additional activities around the event.
With its combination of horse racing, history, art and winter traditions, White Turf St. Moritz 2027 will place the 120-year relationship between the races, St. Moritz and the Engadin region at the heart of the February celebrations.
