The curtain came down on Day 16 of the Bangalore Summer Meeting with the running of the Southern Empire Plate, a 1400-metre showdown that brought together some of the meeting’s most experienced contenders. As the clock struck 5:00 PM, the final race delivered a fitting finale, Wellington emerged victorious with a polished performance under a confident ride by Arvind Kumar N.
Trained by S. Inayathulla and stopping the timer at 1:26.67, Wellington claimed the top spot and the lion’s share of the Rs. 5,10,000 purse. Representing the colours of Mr. Chiranthan J. Mirji, the winner showed tactical patience early before accelerating strongly in the final furlong to clinch the honours.
In second was El Alamein, trained by Faraz Arshad and ridden by Vivek G, who mounted a sustained challenge but was unable to reel in the leader, finishing in 1:28.25. It was a determined effort from the runner, who showed grit and staying power over the trip.
Peridot completed the placings, guided by L. Alex Rozario and trained by Imtiaz Khan, coming in at 1:28.41 to take a well-earned third place in a competitive field.
With this result, the Bangalore Turf Club closed another exciting chapter of its summer racing season. As the grandstands cleared, attention now shifts to the next raceday, scheduled for July 12, 2025.
