The afternoon will commence with the Novices’ Limited Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 3) at 1:47pm over 2m 4f. Open to horses aged five years and older, the race will carry prize money of £12,800 and feature a compact field comprising Sony Bill, Pony Soprano and Tamarind Bay. Although small in numbers, the contest will provide an intriguing opening to the meeting as the trio will bid to make a successful start over fences.
Racing will continue with the Novices’ Hurdle (Class 3) at 2:17pm, worth £15,000 over 2m 3f 207y. The five-runner field will include Flying Ace, Jetbob, Not Now, Way Maker and Moi Mon Vieux, with several runners looking to continue their progression in novice company. The contest will offer another informative test before the higher-value handicaps later in the afternoon.
Attention will then turn to the Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 2) at 2:52pm. The feature race of the meeting will arrive at 3:27pm with the Summer Cup Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 2). Worth £75,000 and contested over 3m 10y, the prestigious staying chase will draw a field of 14 runners, including Hang In There, Riskintheground, Twig, Alien Storm, Ki Woo, Peaky Boy and Hold Your Fort. As one of the leading summer handicap chases in the National Hunt calendar, the race will provide the highlight of the afternoon and is expected to produce a competitive finish.
The programme will continue at 4:03pm with the Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) over 2m 7f 70y, carrying prize money of £20,000. The expected field will feature Blizzard of Oz, Bold Endeavour, Crebilly, American Sniper, Gabbys Cross, Musique de Fee and Ebony Warrior, offering another closely matched contest for staying hurdlers.
The penultimate event, the Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) at 4:43pm, will be run over 1m 7f 168y for a purse of £8,700. Morning Mayhem, Hope Rising, Edelak and Caelan will form the four-runner field as the meeting moves towards its conclusion.
The final race on the programme will be the Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) at 5:20pm over 2m 3f 207y, also worth £8,700.
