Veteran sprinter Twilight Calls produced a perfectly judged late challenge to land the Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap, overcoming a field of 23 runners with a determined finish under Saffie Osborne. The eight-year-old, one of the oldest horses in the line-up, showed he has lost none of his speed as he surged through in the closing strides to secure victory by a head at Goodwood Racecourse .

Racing towards the stands’ side over the sharp five-furlong trip, Twilight Calls was settled off the strong early pace before Osborne delivered him with a well-timed run inside the closing furlong. The experienced sprinter finished strongly to deny Naana’s Sparkle in the final strides, while fellow veteran Glamorous Breeze stayed on for third after another consistent display.
The victory continued Twilight Calls’ resurgence, marking his third win from his last four starts since racing in a visor. The Richard Spencer-trained gelding has returned to form after competing in Dubai earlier in the year and has steadily climbed back into contention in major sprint handicaps.
Victory is expected to secure Twilight Calls a place in Saturday’s Stewards’ Cup, a race in which he performed with distinction last season. His latest success also maintained Saffie Osborne’s excellent recent form following a productive weekend of winners.
Naana’s Sparkle produced another commendable effort to finish second after encountering traffic during the closing stages but still came within a head of victory. Glamorous Breeze completed the podium a further half-length behind, while Democracy Dilemma and Toca Madera filled the remaining places in the first five.
Twilight Calls has now rediscovered the consistency that once saw him compete at the highest level in sprint races. His revival has coincided with a return to handicap company, where his finishing speed has once again become a decisive weapon.
Richard Spencer celebrated his third winner of the 2026 Goodwood Festival with the success, while Saffie Osborne registered her second festival victory.
