Too Darn Hot Nomination to Star in Inglis Digital August (Late) Online Sale

A rare and exclusive Too Darn Hot nomination—the last available before the upcoming breeding season—will headline the Inglis Digital August (Late) Online Sale, running from August 22 to 27. The offering is expected to draw significant interest from breeders eager to secure access to one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most sought-after stallions, with all proceeds benefiting the CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust.

Too Darn Hot Nomination Sets Rare Opportunity

The Group 1-winning Darley shuttle stallion, co-owned and bred by Watership Down Stud, has made an extraordinary impact on the Australian thoroughbred breeding industry. In 2023/24, Too Darn Hot was crowned Southern Hemisphere’s Leading First Season Sire, setting new benchmarks in earnings. He followed that up in 2024/25 by becoming the Leading Second Season Sire.

Too Darn Hot’s early career success is remarkable—he has produced more Group race winners at this stage than many of Australia’s most renowned stallions, including Snitzel, Fastnet Rock, I Am Invincible, and Champion Sire Zoustar. His first crop, led by four-time Group 1 winner Broadsiding, is widely regarded as one of the best in recent history.

His offspring have also been highly sought-after at major sales, with yearlings selling for up to $1.9 million and horses-in-training reaching $2.4 million. Broadsiding now stands alongside his sire on the Darley stallion roster.

Breeding for a Cause

The sale of the nomination is a collaboration between Godolphin, Watership Down Stud, and CatWalk, with all proceeds directed toward funding spinal cord injury research. Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth expressed pride in hosting the offering:

“It’s a real honour for the Inglis Digital platform to be entrusted with this Too Darn Hot nomination, which is for such a great cause. This is a rare and exclusive opportunity for breeders.”

Godolphin Australia’s Managing Director, Andy Makiv, praised the stallion’s exceptional attributes:

“Too Darn Hot has all the qualities of an outstanding stallion. He’s almost impossible to gain access to, so supporting CatWalk with this nomination is something we’re proud to be part of.”

CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust

Founded in 2002 by Dame Catriona Williams after a life-changing spinal cord injury, CatWalk funds research aimed at finding a cure. Based in New Zealand, the Trust invests in scientific discovery, therapeutic development, and patient-focused projects.

Williams stressed the importance of the initiative:

“It’s not just about funding research—it’s about giving people hope. Every dollar raised moves us closer to our goal of seeing people walk again.”

International Support

Madeleine Lloyd Webber, owner of Watership Down Stud, shared her personal connection to the cause as a former three-day eventer:

“CatWalk and Catriona’s incredible campaign are very close to my heart. I’m honoured to support her impactful charity.”

Simon Marsh, General Manager of Watership Down Stud, echoed her thoughts:

“We’ve supported this cause for several years. Offering a nomination to a stallion of this calibre feels like the right way to give back.”
