The Royal Western India Turf Club kicked off the final day of its 2024-25 Mumbai Meeting on April 6th with the running of the Rapier Million, a 1200-meter dash that carried total stakes of ₹15,00,000, including a winning share of ₹7,05,000.
Rising to the occasion was the progressive SUSSING, trained by H. J. Antia and ridden with assurance by Antony Raj S. The gelding displayed sharp gate speed and sustained his effort through the final furlong, stopping the clock at 1:11.683 to clinch the top spot. Sent off at odds of 7.50, Sussing’s win underscored his continued improvement and delivered a strong start for the connections.
Finishing a game second was RED MERLOT, trained by Narendra Lagad and ridden by A. Prakash. The gelding kept on gamely in pursuit but couldn’t quite bridge the gap, crossing the line in 1:12.082 at odds of 8, earning valuable place money for his team.
LIGHTNING BLAZE, also hailing from the Narendra Lagad yard, took third place under S. Siddharth, giving the veteran trainer a notable dual finish in the opener. Clocking 1:12.145 and returning at odds of 15, Lightning Blaze stayed on well in the closing stages to edge out the rest of the field.
With the Rapier Million wrapped up and the tone set for the day, all eyes now shift to the upcoming Bombay Club Multi-Million, a 1600-meter contest poised to bring even more drama and excitement to the season finale at RWITC, Mumbai.
