Suraj Narredu Shergar Cup 2025 Debut Headlines Team Asia Line-Up
The 2025 edition introduces a major format change by replacing the Ladies team with the newly-formed Team Asia, made up of both male and female riders. This modern update reflects the sport’s increasingly inclusive landscape. Suraj Narredu Shergar Cup 2025 leadership will be supported by top Japanese jockeys Ryusei Sakai and Mirai Iwata.
Sakai is internationally acclaimed for his partnership with Forever Young and Shin Emperor. Iwata elevated Japan’s standing with his 2023 win in the World All-Star Jockeys. The trio, racing in red silks, bring balance, form, and experience to this new Team Asia effort at the Shergar Cup.
Narredu’s captaincy is a proud moment for Indian racing. The son of trainer Satish Narredu and nephew of Malesh Narredu, Suraj has notched over 2,000 wins and multiple Indian Derby titles. His achievements across Southeast Asia and the Middle East solidify his place among elite international jockeys. The Suraj Narredu Shergar Cup 2025 assignment is a defining career moment, symbolizing India’s rise on the global turf.
Meanwhile, Great Britain & Ireland will be led by superstar Hollie Doyle, with support from Melbourne Cup winner Robbie Dolan. The European team, captained by Sweden’s Per-Anders Gråberg, includes Switzerland’s Sibylle Vogt and Italy’s Dario Di Tocco. The Rest of the World team is led by Karis Teetan of Mauritius, a Hong Kong Group 1 regular with wins aboard Romantic Warrior and Ka Ying Rising.
The event is sponsored for the 20th year by Dubai Duty Free, offering £500,000 in prize money and a further £25,000 in stable bonuses. Beyond the racing, fans can expect a festival atmosphere, with performances from Perrie, Joel Corry, and Marvin Humes. Tickets start at £35, with early bird discounts available through May 2nd.
