Sum of Success, the undefeated two-year-old trained by Bobby Dibona, will remain at Gulfstream Park for his next assignment after a minor illness interrupted preparations for a possible Breeders’ Cup appearance. The multiple stakes winner is being aimed at either the $100,000 Juvenile Sprint on November 14 or the $200,000 Aventura on November 28, as his connections look to extend his unbeaten record during the opening weeks of the 2026-2027 Championship Meet.
Owned by K. Johnston Racing, Michael and Jules Iavarone, and Hopeless Stables, Sum of Success had briefly been considered for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (Grade 1) at Keeneland on October 30. The race would have marked his first start on grass, but a setback following his latest victory forced a change of plans.
Dibona confirmed that the colt had developed a fever and experienced abnormal bloodwork, resulting in a break of a couple of weeks from training. The decision to keep him in Florida will give the stable more time to prepare him for his next challenge.
Sum of Success Resumes Training at Gulfstream Park
Sum of Success returned to timed exercise on Saturday, completing a half-mile breeze in 49.44 seconds over Gulfstream Park’s main track, which was rated good. It was his first recorded workout since August 30, ahead of his September 5 victory in the seven-furlong Express Tour for Florida-breds.
Dibona was satisfied with the colt’s return, explaining that the workout was intended to ease him back into his regular routine rather than demand too much too soon. The colt also galloped out well after completing the distance.
The stable will now assess his progress before deciding between the Juvenile Sprint and the Aventura. Both races will provide opportunities for Sum of Success to continue his development against fellow two-year-olds.
The son of Grade 1-winning sprinter Win Win Win made his debut at Gulfstream Park on July 20. He followed that performance with a victory in the In Summation on August 10 before capturing the Express Tour less than a month later.
All three victories have come through front-running performances, with the colt winning by a combined margin of 24¼ lengths. His unbeaten record and consecutive stakes successes have established him as one of the promising young Florida-breds to follow this season.
Vibe Prepares for Mr. Jordan Handicap
Another notable runner on Saturday’s Gulfstream Park workout schedule was Vibe, a four-year-old trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Todd Pletcher. The colt covered four furlongs in 50.85 seconds over the main track as he prepared for the $60,000 Mr. Jordan Handicap on October 24.
Owned by Repole Stable, West Point Thoroughbreds, CJ Stables, Woodford Racing, Lane’s End and Patrick McGee, Vibe was purchased for $3 million as a yearling. He recorded his first career victory at Gulfstream Park in April 2025, winning a maiden event at his second attempt. He subsequently returned to competition on March 14, winning an optional claiming allowance at the same venue.
His latest appearance came at Parx on September 19, where he finished seventh in the Stable Recovery.
Vibe has drawn post seven in a field of 10 for the one-turn mile Mr. Jordan Handicap, which is open to horses aged three and older. His opposition includes stakes winners Chrome Ghost, To the Eastside and Pure Class, along with stakes-placed runners Indecisiveness, Fede, El Principito, Fiveeyesonskystars and Awesome Train.
The October 24 contest will offer Vibe an opportunity to return to winning form against an experienced field.
Rosie’s Roadster Leads Sunday’s Gulfstream Park Programme
Sunday’s racing at Gulfstream Park will also feature Rosie’s Roadster, who will attempt to secure a third consecutive victory in Race 7, a six-furlong optional claiming allowance for two-year-old fillies.
Trained by Gary Jackson, the daughter of 2019 Santa Anita Derby (Grade 1) winner Roadster broke her maiden in a state-bred contest at her second career start. She followed that success with an emphatic 11½-length victory over five and a half furlongs. Miguel Vazquez is booked to ride her again.
Rosie’s Roadster will be among the runners attracting attention during a nine-race programme that also includes a six-furlong allowance contest for fillies and mares in Race 8 and a one-mile claiming event for three-year-olds and older horses in Race 9, scheduled for turf.
The Gulfstream Park meeting forms part of a wider weekend of racing that includes events at Santa Anita, with several races linked through the day’s scheduled cross-track programme.
