The most anticipated race of the Bangalore Summer Meeting – The Zavaray S. Poonawalla Colts Championship Stakes – lived up to its billing as Sovereign King delivered a sparkling performance in this prestigious contest for 3-year-old Indian colts and geldings.
Raced over 1600 meters and offering a rich prize pool of Rs.49,50,000, the sixth race of the day brought together the most promising young colts in the country. It was Antony Raj S., in top form, who guided Sovereign King to a hard-fought win under the expert training of Adhiraj Singh Jodha. The winning time was an impressive 1:36.75, and the ownership group included Mr. Sudendu Shah , Mrs. Preeti C. Shah , Mrs. Hiral Shah & Dr. Rahul Shah & Mr. K. M. Shah & Mrs. Vanita K. Shah & Mr. Chaitanya Shah & Mr. Vinod M. Mathurawala Mrs. Pooja S. Shah.
In a thrilling blanket finish, Stormy Sea finished just a whisker behind in 1:36.79. Trained by M. K. Jadhav and ridden by N. S. Parmar, the colt carried the hopes of M/s. SKJ Thoroughbreds Pvt Ltd and ran a gallant race.
The third spot was claimed by Red Bishop, trained by Pesi Shroff and ridden by P. Trevor, who timed 1:36.80. Representing Five Stars Shipping Co Pvt Ltd, Miss Anita J. Captain, Mr. Dinshaw P. Adenwalla, Mrs. Jasmine D. Adenwalla, Mr. A. S. Narielwala, and Mr. Vispi R. Patel, Red Bishop showed he belongs among India’s elite 3-year-olds.
