Southwell will host an eight-race all-weather fixture on Tuesday, 13 January, with racing scheduled from 4:30pm through to 8:00pm. The Southwell Race Cards 13 January will set out an evening programme featuring apprentice and senior handicaps, classified contests, and a fillies’ novice race, with distances ranging from sharp sprints to a staying finale.
The meeting will take place under floodlights and will primarily cater for four-year-olds and older horses, alongside one contest restricted to three-year-old fillies. A range of race classes and competitive field sizes will provide a balanced and varied card across the evening.
The action will begin at 4:30pm with THE MIDNITE APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5). Nine runners aged four and above will contest the £7,100 race over 4f 214y, a sprint expected to place emphasis on early speed and accurate positioning.
At 5:00pm, THE CLASSIFIED STAKES (CLASS 6) (DIV I) will be run over 7f 14y. Eleven runners will line up for the £6,000 contest, where consistency and a strong finish are likely to prove decisive. DIVISION II will follow at 5:30pm. Ten runners will compete over the same distance and for the same prize money, offering a closely matched companion to the earlier division.
The fourth race on the card, scheduled for 6:00pm, will be THE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4). Six runners will go to post over 7f 14y for £9,500, with the smaller field expected to produce a tactical and steadily run contest.
In the early sprint and classified events, Brazilian Belle and Emperor’s Son are likely to attract attention. Call Glory and Evoluir could also feature prominently, while Pink Socks may prove interesting given recent form under similar conditions. Aim For The Bull and Invited are expected to feature in the mid-distance sprints.
Racing will resume at 6:30pm with THE MIDNITE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6). Ten runners will contest the £9,000 prize over 6f 16y, a distance that regularly rewards tactical speed on the Southwell all-weather surface.
At 7:00pm, THE MIDNITE FILLIES’ NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) will provide the only novice contest of the evening. Twelve three-year-old fillies will compete over 6f 16y for £10,000, with several lightly raced runners expected to show improvement.
The feature sprint of the card will arrive at 7:30pm with THE MIDNITE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3). Seven runners will contest the £15,200 race over 4f 215y, making it the highest-grade event on the programme.
The meeting will conclude at 8:00pm with THE MIDNITE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4). Six runners will tackle 1m 4f 14y for £9,500, the longest trip of the night, where stamina and settling ability are expected to play key roles.
In the later stages, Higher-class contests may see Showtime Mahomes in contention, while Ottawa, Avalon Mill Mehmas, Marianne Mozart, Alligator Alley, Paddy’s Day, Machete, and Cannon Rock add further depth to the evening programme.
