The Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) hosted the 22nd day of its Winter Meeting 2024-2025 today (March 8, 2025). The race card featured eight contests, commencing at 2:00 PM, including The Koyna Plate, The Raichur Plate, The Mahadayi Plate, The Adichunchanagiri Plate, The Maj. C Newton-Davis Memorial Trophy, The P.V. Shetty Memorial Trophy, The Mahadayi Plate, and, rounding off the day’s action, The Maj. C Newton-Davis Memorial Trophy.
The Maj. C Newton-Davis Memorial Trophy offered one of the highest prize purses of the day, totaling Rs. 10,50,000. A competitive field of ten horses lined up for the 1200-meter contest, with KISS OF GREY emerging as the tote favorite. However, it was SICYON who stole the spotlight, claiming victory under jockey P. Trevor and trainer S.S. Attaollahi, in a time of 1:12.91, taking home Rs. 5,41,250. Trained by Irfan Ghatala DARRINGTON, a three-year-old, finished second under jockey L. Alex Rozario. MOON STAR, guided by Akshay Kumar and trained by S. Ganapathy, secured third place. RANSOMWARE finished fourth, while SILVER QUEST completed amongst the top five.
The day’s proceedings began with The Koyna Plate, a 1200-meter race for horses rated 60–85. METZINGER, a six-year-old, produced a commanding performance, stopping the clock at 1:12.29 and securing Rs. 3,50,000. The horse, trained by G.Y. Rajesh Babu, was ridden to victory by Akshay Kumar, who once again displayed his exceptional riding skills. JERSEY KING, a four-year-old trained by S. Dominic and ridden by Suraj Narredu, finished second in 1:12.49, after starting as the tote favorite. AUSPICIOUS QUEEN (Ridden by P. Trevor , trained by Narayana Gowda V) secured third place, followed by GOLDEN TIME (Ridden by Koshi Kumar & trained by V. Lokanath). NRI ACE (Ridden by K.G. Likith Appu , trained by Md. Sajid Qureshi), rounded out the top five. The total prize money for this race was Rs. 7,00,000.
In The Raichur Plate, a 1600-meter race for horses rated 00–25, SUPERHERO, a five-year-old trained by Faraz Arshad, emerged victorious, completing the race in 1:41.29 under jockey Akshay Kumar. The winner secured a prize of Rs. 2,41,250. ROYAL WHISPER (Jockey Darshan R.N , Trainer Neil B. Devaney) claimed second place, followed by SOUTHERN ARISTOCRAT (Jockey Antony Raj S. , trainer Kishan Thomas K) in third. CHANNAGIDE (Jockey Adarsh G. , trainer Umar Shariff S.) finished fourth, while MY VISIONARY (Jockey V.R. Jagadeesh , trainer S. Inayathulla) took the final spot in the top five.
Ridden by jockey V.R. Jagadeesh, DOMINA emerged victorious in the 1200-meter Mahadayi Plate (Div. II), while SILVER SWIFT and BALTIMORE secured second and third place, respectively. Jagadeesh later guided DOUBLE VISION to victory in The Mahadayi Plate (Div. I), clocking 1:14.31, narrowly edging out SUPER KID, who finished a close second at 1:14.32.
In The Adichunchanagiri Plate, KNOTTY PATTON stormed to victory under jockey P. Trevor. Meanwhile, ace jockey Suraj Narredu steered FINLEY to a fine win over tote favorite POWER OF BEAUTY in The P.V. Shetty Memorial Trophy.
The day concluded with The Red Fort Plate, where CARTER, ridden by Rayan Ahmed R., clinched victory with a time of 1:26.38. LUX AETERNA, piloted by Suraj Narredu, finished second, while GISMO and WESTLAKE claimed third and fourth place, respectively.
