Shergar Cup 2025 spotlight: Teetan takes charge at Ascot
Teetan, one of the Hong Kong circuit’s most consistent performers, steps into the limelight at Ascot for the first time as captain of a formidable Rest of the World lineup. Joining him are fellow debutant Katie Davis (USA) and seasoned jockey Hugh Bowman, who boasts previous Shergar Cup experience and a Silver Saddle win in 2007.
“It will be my first time,” said Teetan. “Of course, it’s an event that I’ve always wanted to take part in.” The 34-year-old has become a global name since relocating from Mauritius to Hong Kong in 2013, consistently ranking among the territory’s top riders.
The Shergar Cup 2025, run over six races, pits four teams—Rest of the World, Great Britain & Ireland, Europe, and Asia—against each other in a unique points-based format. The team with the most points at the end of the day claims the title, while the Silver Saddle is awarded to the top individual scorer.
Bowman, a global Group 1 star with triumphs in the Golden Slipper and Cox Plate, lends leadership and experience to Teetan’s side. “These jockey challenges are great events,” Teetan noted. “The clubs should get a lot of credit for putting these world-class jockeys together.”
Teetan heads into Shergar Cup 2025 fresh off a strong Hong Kong season with 44 wins, while Bowman was also among the standout names during the 2024/25 season. Together, they bring firepower and flair to the Rest of the World team’s campaign.
Fans can also look forward to top talent across the board, with Europe fielding Italy’s champion Dario Di Tocco and Asia sending Japan’s Ryusei Sakai. Great Britain & Ireland will be captained by Hollie Doyle in her fourth Shergar Cup appearance.
“Riding at Ascot will be amazing,” Teetan added. “That’s something that I’m looking forward to. I’m gonna enjoy it and make the most of it.”
