Romantic Warrior, one of the world’s highest-earning and Hong Kong’s most celebrated racehorses, has safely returned to trainer Danny Shum’s stable at Sha Tin after undergoing a veterinary procedure on his left front leg. The operation was part of a precautionary health screening initiative by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), reflecting its rigorous commitment to equine welfare.

The procedure followed advanced imaging examinations conducted on 16 May 2025, including a CT scan and MRI of his forelimbs. These screenings, a routine part of the Club’s equine welfare protocols, were carried out despite the gelding showing no signs of lameness or clinical symptoms.

After consultations involving HKJC’s veterinary experts, Romantic Warrior’s owner, and trainer Danny Shum, the decision was taken to proceed with a minimally invasive procedure at the Club’s state-of-the-art Equine Hospital. On 28 May 2025, a single screw was successfully inserted under standing sedation and local anaesthesia—without complications.

The multiple Group 1 winner is now back in his familiar surroundings and will be under careful observation by Club veterinarians and stable staff. His recovery will be supported by the HKJC’s internationally recognised rehabilitation services.

The Club reaffirmed its ongoing dedication to the health and safety of its equine athletes, with Romantic Warrior’s case serving as a model of proactive and collaborative care in top-tier racing.
