Friday’s meeting at Sedgefield Racecourse will cover seven races from 4:25 pm to 7:50 pm, with the programme moving through hurdle races, a steeplechase and a National Hunt flat race. The Sedgefield Racecards 28 August will bring together fields ranging from six to 10 runners, with prize money stretching from £6,150 to £10,000. The distances will range from 2m 146y to 3m 2f 123y, providing a varied evening of National Hunt racing.
The evening will get underway at 4:25 pm with The Darlington RA & Ellie Wake Novices’ Hurdle Race (Class 4) (GBB Race). The 2m 3f 132y contest will be open to four-year-olds and upwards, with eight runners competing for £10,000. Genealogy, Cadillac Ranch, Credit Union, Rock Armour, Tracker Issue and Datstheholyallofit will be among the runners listed. The opening novices’ hurdle will provide an early test of jumping technique and stamina, with the distance demanding a measured approach from the field.
A brisker examination will follow at 5:00 pm in The Newts Rocket To The Top Novices’ Limited Hurdle Race (Class 5). The 2m 146y contest will be open to three-year-olds and upwards, with 10 runners scheduled to compete for £6,150. Daaris, Character Testing, Expert Analysis, Hijo de La Luna, Return With Gold and Yanka Blue will be among the runners listed. Over the shorter distance, an efficient rhythm and clean jumping will be important as the field negotiates the hurdles.
A change of test will arrive at 5:32 pm with The Bodhi Solutions Steeple Chase (Class 5). The race will cover 2m 3f 109y and will be open to four-year-olds and upwards, with nine runners set to compete for £6,150. Delpotro, Thank You Blue, Fiskardo, Wherearethejudges, Wudya and Tom Creen will be among the listed runners. The fences will add another dimension to the contest, with jumping accuracy becoming particularly important around the Sedgefield circuit.
The evening will move back to the hurdles at 6:05 pm for The Warm-Flo Hot To Trot Hurdle Race (Class 4). The 2m 146y race will be open to four-year-olds and upwards, with a six-runner field competing for £7,700. Machete Beach, Glory And Honour, Saint Polo, Jolie Coeur Allen, Scots Poet and Fine Point will make up the field. With just six runners, the race could place added emphasis on tactical positioning, while fluent jumping will remain essential over the shorter trip.
Stamina will become the central question at 6:40 pm in The Bodhi Bespoke Steeple Chase (Class 5). The race will be run over a testing 3m 2f 123y, making it the longest contest on the evening’s programme. Seven runners will compete for £6,150, with Getaway Vic, Maggies Boy, Jeteye, You Did, Uncle Al and Jo Arengeot Bey Aa among the names listed. The extended distance will require patience and energy management, while maintaining a consistent jumping rhythm will be crucial over the fences.
The hurdles will return at 7:15 pm for The MW Civils & Groundworks Hurdle Race (Class 5). The 2m 3f 132y contest will be open to four-year-olds and upwards, with 10 runners scheduled to compete for £6,150. Aimeric, Socks Off, American Empire, Indian Sunbird, William Yeats and Lipstick Traces will be among the runners. The larger field will create another busy jumping contest, with consistency and composure likely to be valuable from the opening hurdle.
The seven-race evening will conclude at 7:50 pm with The Bodhi Creative Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race (Class 4) (GBB Race). The 2m 146y contest will be restricted to four and five-year-olds, with nine runners competing for £7,200. You Be Lucky Jean, Youlooklikeyourmum, Arc Kunoichi, Cumnock, Grey Day and Megatothemax will be among the listed runners. With no jumping obstacles to negotiate, the closing contest will provide a different test after a programme dominated by hurdles and fences.
The Sedgefield Racecards 28 August will therefore bring seven contests across an evening offering plenty of variety. The programme will open with a Class 4 novices’ hurdle, move through further hurdle and steeplechase tests, include the longest race of the evening over 3m 2f 123y and finish with a National Hunt flat race. With different distances, field sizes and race conditions, the card will provide a broad examination of jumping ability and stamina.
