Sea Diamond wins the Sayonara Plate
The Sayonara Plate, the second race on the 24th and final day of the Bangalore Summer Meeting, unfolded over a mile (1600m) for horses rated 00 to 25. With a modest but meaningful prize purse of ₹4,50,000, the field lined up under perfect racing conditions at Bangalore Turf Club (BTC).
It was Sea Diamond, trained by Umar Shariff S. and ridden confidently by Asirvatham, who emerged from the pack to claim the top honours. Representing owners Mr. M. Sridhar & M/s Seabliss Racing LLP, the horse clocked 1:40.39 in a front-running performance that kept the competition at bay.
Pettes Love, handled by K. Sai Kiran for trainer Joseph B. Awale, gave earnest chase but had to settle for second, completing the mile in 1:41.13. A further length and a bit behind was Double Scotch, guided by Antony Raj S. for trainer S. Shoban Babu, who closed out the top three in 1:41.52.
On to the Racing Officials Cup
With the Sayonara Plate done and dusted, eyes now turn to the Racing Officials Cup, the next contest on what promises to be a high-quality card at BTC. The day continues to build toward its Grade III feature, the Governor’s Cup.
