By | 26 Aug 2026 | Mumbai

Racing will return to Saratoga Racecourse on Wednesday, August 26, for an eight-race programme scheduled from 1:10pm to 5:15pm. The afternoon will feature four races on dirt and four on turf, with distances ranging from 5½ furlongs to 1 1/16 miles. The feature event will be the $200,000 Stakes over 5½ furlongs on turf, scheduled as Race 7. The card will offer a varied mix of maiden, allowance, claiming and stakes contests across the two surfaces.

The opening race will begin at 1:10pm and will offer a $90,000 prize for a Maiden Special Weight contest over 6½ furlongs on dirt. The race will provide the first test of the afternoon and will require the runners to combine early pace with the ability to maintain their effort through the closing stages. The 6½-furlong distance will provide a middle ground between the shorter sprint races and the longer events later on the card.

Race 2 will follow at 1:45pm, with a $60,000 prize on offer for a Claiming contest over 1 1/16 miles on turf. The race will mark the first switch to the grass and will introduce a longer distance than the opening event. The extended trip will place greater importance on settling into a suitable rhythm before the runners begin their final run towards the finish.

At 2:20pm, Race 3 will return to dirt for a $70,000 Starter Allowance over seven furlongs. The seven-furlong distance will provide an intermediate test, sitting between the 6½-furlong opening race and the longer 1 1/16-mile contests. The race will give the runners another opportunity to handle the Saratoga dirt while requiring a balance between speed and stamina.

Race 4 will be scheduled for 2:55pm and will carry a $115,000 prize for a Maiden Special Weight over 5½ furlongs on turf. It will be one of the afternoon’s higher-value contests and the shortest turf race on the programme. The compact distance will leave limited time for runners to find their positions, making the opening stages an important part of the contest.

The fifth race will start at 3:30pm, with another $115,000 prize available in a Maiden Special Weight over 1 1/16 miles on turf. While the race will share the same classification and surface as Race 4, the longer distance will create a different challenge. The additional ground will place greater emphasis on pace control and stamina as the field works through the middle stages of the contest.

Race 6 will be scheduled for 4:05pm, when a $52,000 Starter Optional Claiming race will take place over one mile on dirt. The mile will represent the longest dirt assignment on the afternoon and will provide another test of sustained speed. The contest will also serve as the penultimate dirt race before attention turns towards the feature event on turf.

The afternoon’s feature will arrive at 4:40pm, when Race 7 will offer a $200,000 prize in a Bolton Landing Stakes contest over 5½ furlongs on turf. It will carry the highest purse of the eight-race programme and will stand as the principal race on the card. The short distance will demand an efficient start and a strong finish, with the runners having little ground available to recover from a slow beginning.

The programme will conclude at 5:15pm with a $50,000 prize for a Maiden Claiming race over seven furlongs on dirt. The final contest will return to the dirt surface and will cover the same distance as Race 3. It will bring the eight-race meeting to a close after a programme that will have offered a mixture of sprint and middle-distance races across both surfaces.
