Saratoga Racecards 21 August
Opening the programme, Race 1 will begin at 1:10pm with a $130,000 Allowance Optional Claiming contest. The race will cover 1 3/16 miles on the turf, making it one of the longest contests on the 10-race card. The opening event will provide an early test over a demanding distance.
The second race will follow at 1:44pm, with a $110,000 Allowance Optional Claiming contest scheduled over one mile on the dirt. The race will continue the early programme with a middle-distance test and will mark the first dirt event of the afternoon.
Moving into Race 3, a $115,000 Maiden Special Weight contest will take place at 2:18pm. The one-mile race will be staged on the dirt and will provide another middle-distance opportunity on the main track. The contest will be followed by a shorter event in Race 4.
At 2:52pm, Race 4 will feature a $55,000 Claiming contest over six furlongs on the dirt. The six-furlong distance will make this the first sprint of the programme, while the $55,000 purse will make it the lowest-value race on Friday’s card.
The fifth race will switch back to the turf at 3:26pm. The $115,000 Maiden Special Weight contest will cover 5 1/2 furlongs and will provide a shorter turf test. The race will introduce another change in surface and distance as the afternoon programme progresses.
Continuing the turf action, Race 6 will begin at 4:00pm and will carry a purse of $115,000. The Maiden Special Weight contest will be contested over 1 1/16 miles on the turf, giving the runners a longer opportunity to settle into the race before the late stages.
The seventh race will be scheduled for 4:34pm and will carry a purse of $125,000. The Allowance Optional Claiming contest will cover 1 1/8 miles on the dirt, making it one of the more substantial middle-distance events of the meeting.
The eighth race will follow at 5:09pm with a $120,000 Allowance Optional Claiming contest over 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The shorter distance will provide a contrasting test ahead of the day’s principal stakes event.
The ninth race will take centre stage at 5:44pm with the $200,000 Fleet Indian Stakes. The stakes contest will be run over 1 1/8 miles on the dirt and will carry the highest purse of the meeting, making it the principal race on the Saratoga programme.
Closing the card, Race 10 will begin at 6:19pm with a $100,000 Maiden Special Weight contest. The final race will cover 1 1/16 miles on the turf and will bring the 10-race programme to a close after an afternoon featuring a broad range of distances, surfaces and race classifications.
The Saratoga Racecards 21 August will feature 10 races from 1:10pm to 6:19pm, with the $200,000 Fleet Indian Stakes scheduled as the feature event over 1 1/8 miles on dirt.
