Britain’s historic Sandown Park Racecourse will take centre stage on Saturday, 4 July, when it presents the prestigious Group 1 Coral-Eclipse, one of the most established and respected contests of the British Flat racing season. Scheduled for 3:35pm, the feature race will offer a prize fund of £1,000,000 and will be run over 1 mile, 1 furlong and 209 yards. Open to horses aged three years and older, the contest has attracted a select field of seven runners, with several of the sport’s leading jockeys set to compete in one of the summer’s most significant racing events.
The Group 1 Coral-Eclipse will once again occupy a prominent place on the midsummer racing calendar, bringing together a compact but high-quality field. Despite featuring only seven runners, the contest will assemble proven performers and progressive challengers in a race that has consistently produced memorable renewals and has long been regarded as an important championship event.
GETHIN will be partnered by James Doyle, whose wealth of experience at the highest level will add further strength to the challenge. KING’S GAMBIT, with Jamie Spencer in the saddle, will also bid for Group 1 honours, while SADDADD, ridden by Ray Dawson, will complete another experienced combination in the accomplished line-up.
The field will also feature A BOY NAMED SUSIE, who will have Oisin Murphy aboard, alongside CONSTITUTION RIVER, partnered by Ryan Moore. Both runners will seek to enhance their records in one of Britain’s most prestigious all-aged contests and will add further quality to an already distinguished field.
Completing the declaration will be FLUSHING MEADOWS, to be ridden by Sean Levey, and HAWK MOUNTAIN, with W. M. Lordan taking the mount. Their presence will ensure every runner is represented by an accomplished jockey capable of competing at the highest level of Flat racing.
Run over 1m 1f 209y, the Coral-Eclipse has traditionally rewarded horses possessing tactical speed, balance and the stamina to finish strongly on Sandown Park’s demanding uphill climb to the winning post.
