Competitive Fields Assemble for RWITC’s Sixteenth Day of the Mumbai Racing Season

Renowned for its rich heritage and longstanding contribution to Indian thoroughbred racing, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) in Mumbai stands as one of the nation’s most eminent racing venues. Located at the iconic Mahalaxmi Racecourse, the club will host the sixteenth day of its 2025/26 meeting on Sunday, 8 March, presenting a seven-race programme meticulously designed to combine competitive handicaps with exciting maiden events.

The evening will commence with the S. Padmanabhan Cup at 4:30 PM, a Class II handicap over 1400 metres for horses rated 60 to 86, with total prize money of Rs.7,50,000. Key runners include Son Of A Gun with K. Nazil aboard, Ardakan under Vivek G., and Earth partnered by Aditya Waydande, joined by Fourth Wing, Bishop, and Alpine Star.

The J. P. Vazifdar Trophy will follow at 5:00 PM, a Class III handicap over 1600 metres for Indian horses rated 40 to 66, offering Rs.6,50,000. Emperor Roderic with S. Mosin, Rambler under Yash Narredu, and Tyrannus partnered by Neeraj Rawal are expected to lead the field, alongside Seneca, Land Of Plenty, and Don Julio.

At 5:30 PM, the Rajpipla Trophy will feature three-year-old maiden Indian horses over 1400 metres with Rs.12,00,000 at stake. Leading contenders include Aegean Sea with C. Umesh, Golden Axl under Antony Raj S., and Lion Heart partnered by Akshay Kumar, with Zayyan, Absolute Serenity, and Age Of Reason completing the line-up.

The J. Rustomji Soparivala Trophy, another maiden race for three-year-olds, will be run at 6:00 PM over 1000 metres with Rs.12,00,000 in prize money. Go Tonto with Bhawani Singh, Lucky Diamond under Vivek G., and Saint Sizzle partnered by S. Zervan headline the field, joined by Azaadi, Crown Flame, and Deavline.

The Greater Mumbai Police Trophy will schedule at 6:30 PM over 1000 metres for Class IV Indian horses rated 20 to 46, with total stakes of Rs.5,50,000. Chelsea ridden by Aditya Waydande, Johnny Mac under A. Omkar, and Heaven’s Rhythm with Yash Narredu are expected to lead the sprint, joined by Esteban, Aries, and Ensky.

At 7:00 PM, the Vallabhdas H. Adwalia Trophy, a Class V handicap over 1400 metres for horses rated 1 to 26, will take place with Rs.5,00,000 on offer. Key runners include Cassat with Santosh G., Majorella Blue under A. S. Peter, and Donatella partnered by S. J. Sunil, along with Beyond Stars, Golden Heart, and Magical Moments.

The evening will conclude with the A. Geddis Plate at 7:30 PM, a 1200-metre Class IV handicap for horses aged five and over, rated 20 to 46, with total prize money of Rs.5,50,000. Marcus with Antony Raj S., Believe under B. Nikhil, and Silver Strike ridden by C. Umesh are expected to compete alongside Desert Classic, Interceptor, and Goomah.

The seven-race programme at RWITC Mahalaxmi Racecourse will offer a compelling mix of handicaps and maiden events. The Mumbai Race Cards 8 March showcase both established performers and emerging three-year-olds, highlighting Sunday’s card as a key fixture in the city’s racing calendar.
