The fixture will form a notable feature of the Sydney autumn racing calendar, with the afternoon card set to include a mixture of sprint races, juvenile contests and middle-distance events across a structured programme that will run steadily from early afternoon into the evening.
The afternoon’s action will begin with Race 1 – Midway Handicap, scheduled for 12.30pm over a distance of 1200 metres for horses aged five years and older. The opening contest will offer $120,000 in prize money and will bring together a group of experienced runners accustomed to sprint distances. As the first race on the card, it will set the tone for the meeting and provide an early opportunity for seasoned campaigners to compete over the short trip.
A longer journey will then be introduced in Race 2 – Cactus Imaging Handicap, which is scheduled for 1.05pm across 1900 metres. Open to three-year-olds and upwards, the race will be run for $160,000 in prize money and will offer a different test compared with the opening sprint. The extended distance will place greater emphasis on stamina and race positioning, adding variety to the early stages of the programme.
The focus will move to the juvenile division in Race 3 – Tresemmé Magic Night Stakes, set to take place at 1.40pm over 1200 metres. This Group 3 contest for two-year-olds will carry $250,000 in prize money, presenting one of the early stakes-level opportunities for young runners during the season. The race will provide emerging juveniles with a chance to compete at a higher level as they continue their development.
Another event for younger runners will follow with Race 4 – TAB Pago Pago Stakes, which will be run at 2.15pm over 1200 metres. Restricted to two-year-old colts and geldings, the Group 3 race will also offer $250,000 in prize money. The contest will further highlight the juvenile ranks and will continue the sequence of important early-season races for developing horses.
The programme will then shift to a middle-distance challenge in Race 5 – Asahi Super Dry Sky High Stakes, scheduled for 2.50pm across 2000 metres. The Group 3 race for three-year-olds and older horses will carry $350,000 in prize money, making it one of the more valuable contests on the afternoon schedule. The distance will provide a stronger test of stamina and will suit runners capable of sustaining their effort over the longer trip.
Attention will return to sprint racing with Race 6 – Toyota Forklifts Maurice McCarten Stakes, listed for 3.25pm over 1100 metres. Open to three-year-olds and upwards, the Group 3 contest will offer $250,000 in prize money. The shorter distance will emphasise speed and early pace, bringing together a field of established sprint performers.
Three-year-old runners will then feature prominently in Race 7 – Chandon Phar Lap Stakes, scheduled for 4.00pm over 1500 metres. This Group 2 contest will be run for $300,000 in prize money, providing the classic generation with a significant opportunity at a middle-distance trip. The race will form an important part of the programme for developing three-year-olds competing during the autumn period.
The feature event of the afternoon will be Race 8 – Coolmore Classic, which is set to take place at 4.35pm over 1500 metres for fillies and mares aged three years and older. As a Group 1 race offering $1,000,000 in prize money, it will represent the most prestigious contest on the programme and one of the leading events of the Sydney autumn racing season.
Later in the afternoon, Race 9 – Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes will be staged at 5.15pm over 1500 metres. The Group 2 contest for three-year-olds and older horses will carry $300,000 in prize money, continuing the high standard of racing as the meeting approaches its closing stages.
The programme will conclude with Race 10 – Schweppes Handicap, which is scheduled for 5.55pm over 1400 metres for three-year-olds and upwards. The final race of the day will offer $160,000 in prize money, bringing the ten-race card at the Sydney venue to a close after a full afternoon of racing.
