The 6th race of the opening day at the Bangalore Winter Meeting 2025, the Jayanth Shah Memorial Trophy, lit up the afternoon at the Bangalore Turf Club. A Class III event for horses rated 40 to 65, run over 1400 metres at 4:30 PM on Saturday, November 1st, saw Rieko (Jockey: Suraj Narredu) produce a polished and powerful run to secure victory for trainer Pradeep Annaiah, stopping the clock at 1:23.89. Racing in the colours of Mr P. Arun Kumar, Rieko displayed both balance and acceleration, marking a confident statement early in the winter season.
Breaking alertly from the gates, Rieko tracked the early leaders through a steady tempo before Suraj Narredu angled him out turning for home. Once given rein, the gelding quickened smartly in the final furlong, drawing clear with authority to put the race beyond reach. The combination of tactical patience and an explosive finish ensured Rieko’s triumph looked effortless by the winning post.
Small Dreams (Jockey: Aleemuddin, Trainer: Vishesh M.P.) chased hard but could only manage second in 1:24.58, staying on gamely without threatening the winner. Close behind came Alamgir (Jockey: Arvind Kumar N., Trainer: Irfan Ghatala) in 1:24.65, completing the top three after a well-fought stretch duel.
With the Jayanth Shah Memorial Trophy concluded in emphatic style, the action now turns to the 7th race – The Dudhsagar Falls Plate, scheduled for 5:00 PM, promising another thrilling contest as the Bangalore Winter Meeting continues.
