Rhoscolyn Coral Golden Mile glory arrived in style as the course specialist delivered a sensational sixth win at Goodwood, reaffirming his reputation as a true track lover. The 11/2 shot surged late under Daniel Tudhope to claim victory in the 2025 Coral Golden Mile, extending trainer David O’Meara’s rich vein of form in the race.

This latest triumph adds to O’Meara’s previous Golden Mile successes with Prompting (2020) and Orbaan (2022). For Rhoscolyn, it was a swift return to form just two days after a modest finish in a seven-furlong handicap earlier in the week.

Rhoscolyn Coral Golden Mile Tactics Pay Off

Drawn well in stall 3, Rhoscolyn was settled in midfield through the early stages. The pace up front was steady, allowing Tudhope to bide his time. As the field turned for home, Rhoscolyn angled out and unleashed a powerful run alongside Ebt’s Guard and Real Gain. The three battled to the line, but it was Rhoscolyn who proved strongest, winning by a length.

“He’s a real, old Goodwood specialist,” said David O’Meara. “This is probably the biggest race he could win down here. He enjoys the contours of the course more than most. The Horse Watchers and I are absolutely delighted.”

O’Meara revealed that had the team known about the rain, they might not have run Rhoscolyn midweek. “Danny gave him a perfect ride—simple and effective. This is a horse that just thrives here.”

The Coral Golden Mile win marks a career highlight for Rhoscolyn, whose track record includes victories at Beverley and multiple placings in top handicaps.

Looking Ahead After the Rhoscolyn Coral Golden Mile Victory

Rhoscolyn is now being aimed at a £100,000 handicap back at Goodwood at the end of August, either over seven furlongs or a mile. O’Meara confirmed: “He’ll definitely come back here again. This is his place.”

Jockey Daniel Tudhope shared his thoughts: “We had a nice draw, and he relaxed well. Once the gap came, he quickened nicely. He’s a little tricky but really enjoys the challenge of this track.”

Runner-up Ebt’s Guard (11/1), trained by William Muir, lost little in defeat. “He’s a five-grand buy who keeps proving himself,” said Muir. “We’ll target the Racing League or the Cambridgeshire next.”

Real Gain (12/1) ran admirably in third for Richard Hughes, especially after a year-long layoff. “On good ground, we might’ve won,” said Hughes. “He’ll head straight to the Cambridgeshire now.”

The Rhoscolyn Coral Golden Mile result underscores the old racing maxim: horses for courses. For Rhoscolyn and Goodwood, it’s clearly a match made in turf heaven.
