India’s horse racing industry is set for an exciting new chapter, as the Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) gears up for its Breeze up Auction Sale on Saturday, February 2nd, in which for the first time ever the bidders will have the opportunity to purchase micro shares in the horses up for auction.
Unlike traditional auctions, where full or majority ownership is required to be bought by individuals or groups, this innovative format, allows participants to own a racehorse with as little as a 2.5% share.
The auction, scheduled to begin at 6 PM at RCTC, will see 22 horses go under the hammer. While the base price for each horse has already been determined, it will only be disclosed during the bidding process.
RaceBuzz has learnt from reliable sources that there is tremendous interest in this pioneering micro-share model, with enquiries pouring in from horse owners across the country. This novel approach is expected to create new investment opportunities, allowing owners to diversify their stakes across multiple horses without significant financial strain. If successful, it could prove to be a game-changer for Indian horse racing, making ownership more accessible while increasing participation and liquidity in the sport.
The horses which are up for auction include AABUSHAN, ART GALLERY, BOOMER, BRAVE MAJESTY, CALL ME TRINITY, CAT WHISKERS, COOL DADDY, CUPID’S WAY, ENDURETH, FALCONBRIDGE, GLOBAL FASHION, LAVISH GIRL, POLKI , ROMAN SPIRIT, ROYAL MEMBER, SILK STUFF, STAR PRIDE, SUPREME GRANDEUR, SURPRISE FANTASY, THE GENERAL, TRAVELLER, TRUE STORY AND TYCOONIST.
According to RCTC’s official guidelines, these horses can only be trained by ‘A’ licensed trainers, further, it is also notified that participation in this auction sale is by “invitation” only and Trainers will need to get prior permission for the Owners that they wish to purchase the above horses for. Only owners approved under the RCTC Rules of Racing can purchase the above horses.
With anticipation running high, all eyes will be on RCTC’s Breeze-Up Auction Sale, as the industry awaits the potential impact of this revolutionary micro-share ownership model on Indian horse racing.
