Racing League Wolverhampton 2025: The East Triumph on Night Two
Wolverhampton – 31 July 2025
Mr Swivell delivered a commanding front-running performance to lead The East to the top of the Racing League 2025 standings after the second night of thrilling action at Wolverhampton Racecourse. With six of the seven regional teams celebrating wins across the card, it was a night of drama, strategy, and rising stars.
Charlie Fellowes’ The East surged ahead in the table, now sitting on 289 points, overtaking London & The South (270) and Scotland (259). Although The East has already used both of its allocated jokers, the team’s consistency has proven crucial.
Mr Swivell Shines in Feature Win
The highlight of the evening came in Race 13, where the well-backed Mr Swivell (7/2 favourite) made all the running under a confident ride from Daniel Muscutt. Trained by Kevin Philippart de Foy, the four-year-old registered his third win in four starts, solidifying his status as a key horse for the season.
“Mr Swivell likes to get on with things. He has a great rhythm when allowed to lead, and tonight there wasn’t much pace pressure,” Muscutt remarked. “He’s matured so much since I first rode him. Connections have really mapped his path through the ranks smartly.”
Yorkshire Joker Pays Off with Hyperchromatic
Race 12 witnessed perhaps the most valuable tactical success of Racing League Season 5 so far, as Yorkshire played their joker and scooped 80 points with Hyperchromatic finishing first and stablemate Double Parked third.
Trainer Marco Botti and captain Leonna Mayor were all smiles. “This was the horse Marco flagged early. He was a bit green, but clearly talented,” Mayor said. “We’ve unearthed something exciting here.”
Scotland Records First One-Two Finish
Scotland celebrated a clean sweep in Race 10 with Charging Thunder edging out La Pulga in a neck-and-neck battle. Ridden superbly by 5lb claimer Mason Paetel, the victory underlined both the horse’s quality and Paetel’s rising profile.
Team manager Alex Steedman praised the finish:
“It was a joy to watch – Paul Mulrennan and Mason Paetel in a textbook duel. Mason’s got a bright future.”
The North’s Double Delight: Stormy Impact and Intervention
Stormy Impact, trained by Richard Fahey, stormed home in Race 11 to give The North their biggest win of the night. The three-year-old filly was steered confidently by Warren Fentiman, continuing her impressive form from Epsom.
Owner-breeder Steve Bradley was delighted:
“She’s got a finishing kick like no other. We’re now thinking about stepping her into Group class—perhaps even the Prix de l’Abbaye.”
Earlier in Race 8, the evergreen Intervention added to his Wolverhampton tally with his sixth win at the venue from 29 starts. The eight-year-old was partnered by Ali Rawlinson and continues to be a reliable performer for The Horse Watchers syndicate.
Sudden Flight and Silent Age Also Impress
Ireland notched up their second win of the season in Race 9 as Sudden Flight surged clear under Finley Marsh, while defending champions Wales & The West finally opened their account in Race 14 thanks to Silent Age, who denied The East another joker success by a short head.
Edward Greatrex, aboard Silent Age, said:
“It came down to timing. Once I made my move, he stayed the trip really well.”
Kingscote Dominates Jockey Standings
With two race nights complete, Richard Kingscote of London & The South leads the top jockey standings with 141 points from 12 rides. Daniel Muscutt (101) and Mason Paetel (73) round out the top three.
