Racing League 2025 Chepstow promises drama, redemption, and fierce team battles as the third night of this year’s competition unfolds on Thursday, August 7. With the standings tightening and jokers still in play, Chepstow presents a vital opportunity—especially for the defending champions, Wales & The West.
Racing League 2025 Chepstow Preview: Can Wales & The West Strike Back?
Jamie Osborne’s Wales & The West enter Night 3 in sixth place with 169 points, managing just one winner and another top-three finish across 27 runners at Great Yarmouth and Wolverhampton. Despite home advantage, a late hiccup in Race 17 means the squad will not field a full team—raising the stakes even higher.
“If the fightback does not begin this week, we will be waving the white flag,” admitted Osborne. “But we have some strong shots—especially in Race 20 where Beylerbeyi should be favourite after a dominant win at Newmarket. Burren Song backs him up well.”
He also highlighted Race 15: “Addison Grey makes his handicap debut for Clive Cox, but I actually think my horse Thunder Blue has a live chance at an each-way price.”
In Race 19, the improving All Ways Glamorous and the course-tested So Smart give Osborne hope for crucial points. “Course form can make a big difference in Chepstow sprints,” he said confidently.
Meanwhile, London & The South sit second with 270 points. Although they went winless at Wolverhampton, consistent top-three finishes kept them in close pursuit of leaders The East (289 points).
Team manager Matt Chapman praised jockey Nicola Currie for coming to Chepstow for one ride on Manila Thriller in Race 21: “She’s doing 8st 3lb. That commitment deserves a win.”
Chapman added: “Great Acclaim and King’s Lynn looked joker-worthy in Race 17, but the field size didn’t suit. I’m also pleased Andrew Balding runs Lieber Power again in Race 20—he’s the defending winner.”
The Racing League 2025 Chepstow narrative also includes a subplot between Chapman and broadcaster Nick Luck, whose part-owned horse Beset clashes with Lieber Power. “Nick rang my trainers instead of calling me—clearly, he’s worried!” Chapman joked.
The North may be bottom on 165 points, but Mick Quinn’s side has landed winners at both previous nights. “We’re 30 points ahead of last year and haven’t played a joker yet,” Quinn noted.
Race 15 is a key target for The North with Juan Les Pins and Northern Spirit, while Race 16 sees the return of Lir Speciale and an exciting newcomer in Boubyan for Mick Appleby. “He’s lightly raced and looks well-handicapped with the three-year-old allowance,” said Quinn.
Racing League 2025 Chepstow could see serious leaderboard reshuffles as teams deploy strategy, skill, and late-season planning. With only 32 points separating fourth and seventh, every placing counts.
