Pune Racecourse Gears Up for Action-Packed Opening Day on July 18

The Pune Racecourse, functioning under the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), has released the official fixtures for the Pune Meeting 2025. The new season is set to revive the enthusiasm and energy among horse racing fans, bringing the buzz back to the track. Scheduled to begin on Friday, July 18th, 2025, the opening day promises an exciting nine-race card. The highlight of the day is The D. K. Ashish Salver, carrying a total prize of ₹12,00,000, with the winner set to receive ₹5,64,000 and a prestigious salver valued at ₹35,000. Racing will commence at 1:00 PM and conclude with the last race at 5:00 PM.

The day opens with The Season Opener Plate Division II at 1:00 PM, a 1000-metre Class IV handicap for Indian horses rated 20 to 46. This race carries prize money of ₹5,50,000 and features a competitive field consisting of Lord Eric, Windborne, Adonis, Menjou’s Moustache, Red Merlot, Semurg, Lightning McQueen, Otello, Untitled, and Moment of Madness.

At 1:30 PM, the second race of the day, The Elegance Plate Division II, will be run over 1200 metres. This Class V handicap is open to Indian horses aged four years and above, with total prize money of ₹5,00,000. The runners include Purple Martini, Bohemian Rhapsody, Major Saab, We Still Believe, Samson, Golden Rule, Talking Point, Leo The Lion, and Toofaan.

The third race, The Vibrant Plate Division II, starts at 2:00 PM. This is a 1400-metre Class IV handicap for Indian horses rated 20 to 46, offering a prize pool of ₹5,50,000. Horses entered for this race include Fable, Lord Murphy, Beyond Stars, AR First Star, Golden Heart, Northbound, Star Impact, Goldiva, and Moonlight Kiss.

At 2:30 PM, The Season Opener Plate Division I will take place. This race will see a competitive lineup of Eloquent, Abhicandra, Bee Magical, Diligence, Rafael, Zephyr, Applause, Chelsea, Mojo, and Semurg vying for top honours.

The fifth race, The Elegance Plate Division I, is scheduled for 3:00 PM. It features a diverse field of horses including Youre Gorgeous, Taabiir, Continental Drift, Precioso, Ma Cherie, Mohsin, Zip Along, She’s A Teaser, and High Spirit.

The feature race of the day, The D. K. Ashish Salver, will be held at 3:30 PM. This 1200-metre terms race is exclusively for maiden Indian horses aged three years. Open to foreign jockeys, the race boasts a lucrative purse of ₹12,00,000, with ₹5,64,000 awarded to the winner and a salver worth ₹35,000. Notable contenders include Dancing Cloud (J: S. A. Amit, T: Hosidar Daji), Delstar (J: Nirmal Jodha, T: Adhiraj Singh Jodha), Ember Tower (J: A. Prakash, T: B. Prithviraj), Lucio (J: C. Umesh, T: Shazaan Shah), Between Lands (J: Yash Narredu, T: M. Narredu), Conjurer (J: Vishal N. Bunde, T: B. Prithviraj), Darcy (J: A. Sandesh, T: Faisal A. Abbas), Merlet (J: Antony Raj S., T: S. Waheed), Ministry Of Time (J: S. Saqlain, T: Aman Altaf Hussain), and Touch Of Mystic (J: P. Trevor, T: Dallas Todywalla).

Following the feature race is The Gamble For Love Trophy at 4:00 PM, a 1400-metre Class I handicap for horses rated 80 and above. With prize money of ₹10,00,000, this race has attracted top-class runners including Snowfall, Market King, It’s My Time, Irish Gold, Madam Rich, Christophany, Regal Command, Coeur De Lion, Pride’s Prince, and Thalassa.

The penultimate race of the day, The Vibrant Plate Division I, will be run at 4:30 PM over a distance of 1400 metres. The line-up includes Challenge Accepted, Endurance, Marcus, Star Romance, Uzi, Remy Red, Pure, Wind Dancer, and Okinayume.

Closing out the opening day is The Columbia Plate, set for 5:00 PM. This 1200-metre Class III handicap is for Indian horses rated 40 to 66 and carries a total prize purse of ₹6,50,000. The field for the final race includes Timeless Vision, Esperanza, Midnight Express, Opus Dei, Ghirardelli, Aries, Fourth Wing, Fast Approach, Finch, Scaramouche, and Black Thunder.
