Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) witnessed another exciting contest on the opening day of the Pune Meeting on Friday, 17th July 2026, as SOVEREIGN KING secured a determined performance to win the 2nd Race – The Dr. S. R. Captain Salver. The Class I race for horses rated 80 and upward (60 to 79 eligible) was run over 1400 metres at 02:30 PM, where SOVEREIGN KING, ridden by A. Sandesh and trained by Adhirajsingh Jodha, clocked 1:25:127 to secure victory for owners Mr Sudendu Shah, Mrs Preeti C Shah, Mrs Vanita K Shah, Dr Rahul Shah, Mrs Pooja S Shah, Mrs Hiral Shah, Mr Chaitanya Shah & Mr Vinod M Mathurawala rep Shah Equines LLP.
The latest Pune race result 17th July showcased a closely fought battle, with SOVEREIGN KING displaying excellent pace control and finishing strength in the prestigious RWITC feature race. Settled well during the early stages, the winner travelled smoothly before making a decisive move in the final stretch. A. Sandesh timed the challenge perfectly, allowing SOVEREIGN KING to edge ahead and secure a narrow but impressive victory.
KAVYA, trained by M. K. Jadhav and ridden by N. S. Parmar, produced a strong effort to finish second, missing the winner by a very small margin while stopping the clock at 1:25:132. WESTERN STAR, representing trainer Narendra Lagad and partnered by Antony Raj S., completed the top three with a finishing time of 1:25:541 after staying competitive throughout the contest.
With the excitement of The Dr. S. R. Captain Salver concluded, attention now moves towards the upcoming The Season Opener Plate DIV II, scheduled for 03:00 PM as the Pune racing action continues at RWITC.
