Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) witnessed an impressive opening to the Pune racing season as PALOMA secured victory in the 1st Race – The Season Opener Plate Div I on Friday, 17th July 2026. The Class IV contest for Indian horses rated 20 to 46 (0 to 19 eligible) was run over 1000 metres at 02:00 PM, where PALOMA, ridden by Suraj Narredu and trained by M. Narredu, produced a sharp performance to win in 0:57:954 for owners Mr Akhtar Adamji Peerbhoy, Mrs Shahnaz A Peerbhoy, Ms Saba A Peerbhoy, Ms Sana A Peerbhoy & Mrs B E Saldanha. This Pune race result 17th July marked an exciting start to the RWITC Pune Meeting.
PALOMA travelled smoothly throughout the sprint event and displayed strong acceleration when it mattered most. Under a confident ride from Suraj Narredu, the winner responded well in the final stages to establish control and cross the finish line ahead of the chasing pack. The combination of tactical positioning and a powerful finish helped PALOMA secure a well-earned success in the season opener.
SANTANA ROW, ridden by Ramswarup and trained by Adhirajsingh Jodha, put up a strong challenge to finish second, clocking 0:58:099. VIENNOISE, guided by A. Omkar and trained by Bezan Chenoy, completed the top three after stopping the clock at 0:58:154.
