The sixth race of the Pune Meeting 2025 Special Race Day — The Dr. S. R. Captain Salver — delivered an electrifying contest on Sunday, 24th August 2025, at the RWITC. A Class II event for horses rated 60 to 86 over a testing 1600 metres, the race went off at 4:45 PM and saw Chagall (J: S. Siddharth, T: P. Shroff) produce a composed yet dominant performance to secure victory. Running in the silks of Mr Cyrus Palia, Mrs Cyrus Palia, Mr K N Dhunjibhoy, Mr Z K Dhunjibhoy, and Ms Anosha Meyers representing Five Stars Shipping Co Pvt Ltd, alongside Mr Vispi R. Patel and Ms Anita J. Captain, Chagall showcased his class and secured a memorable win for his connections.
Breaking smartly from the gates, Chagall settled comfortably in midfield under a patient ride from S. Siddharth, allowing the early leaders to set a brisk tempo on the front end. Approaching the final 400 metres, Siddharth switched gears, producing a decisive surge down the centre of the track. Chagall responded brilliantly, pulling away from his rivals in the final strides to register an emphatic win and underline trainer P. Shroff’s tactical brilliance in preparing the gelding for this challenging mile contest.
Alpine Star (J: Avinash Paswan, T: Narendra Lagad) produced a strong late charge but had to settle for second, stopping the clock at 1:38:651, while Singer Sargent (J: C. Umesh, T: Faisal A. Abbas) stayed on gamely to claim third, clocking 1:38:764. The close margins among the top three underscored the high competitiveness of the field, but Chagall’s superior turn of foot proved decisive.
