The HYDERABAD RACE CLUB hosted the 17th day of its ongoing Monsoon Meeting 2025 on September 21, presenting a seven-race card that kept fans engaged from the opening flag at 1:05 pm through to the finale at 4:35 pm. The afternoon carried the charm of the season, with competitive fields, lively finishes, and plenty of talking points. The feature of the day was Race 3 – The Raja Saheb of Challapalli Memorial Cup, a contest that drew extra anticipation and delivered the drama worthy of its billing.

Race 1: THE MAJOR GENERAL NAWAB KHUSRU JUNG BAHADUR MEMORIAL CUP (Division – II) (1:05pm, 1200 metres)

The afternoon began with a handicap for horses rated 40 to 65 with N R I SPORT making a strong impression, taking the opener in 1:12.057. Jockey H.M. AKSHAY delivered a confident ride, trainer R.H.SEQUEIRA had the runner spot on, and owner MR.RAVINDER REDDY MALE  enjoyed the perfect start to the day. DYANOOSH stayed on for second with credit, while GREAT GIVER ran a determined race to secure third.

Race 2: THE NAWAB SULTAN ALI KHAN MEMORIAL CUP (1:40pm, 1400 metres)

The second event saw CERTANITY assert late to capture the prize in 1:26.838. Jockey A.ASHHAD ASBAR delivered a precise ride, trainer LAXMAN SINGH’s placement proved spot on, and owner MR.S.PATHY had reason to celebrate. AUTHORITARIAN pressed hard in the closing stages, while OPERA QUEEN showed resilience for third.

Race 3: THE RAJA SAHEB OF CHALLAPALLI MEMORIAL CUP (2:15pm, 1600 metres)

The day’s feature race of maidens aged 3 lived up to its reputation, as PRIDE ASIDE produced a memorable run to land the cup in 1:41.104. Jockey B.NIKHIL judged the challenge perfectly, trainer N.RAVINDER SINGH’s call proved masterful, and owner KUNWAR DIGVIJAY SINGH SHEKHAWAT enjoyed a memorable moment. LA FLEURIERE pushed hard in defeat, while WHISTLEDOWN made sure of a spot on the podium.

Race 4: THE P. V. G. RAJU MEMORIAL CUP (2:50pm, 1400 metres)

Energy remained high as SUGAR stayed on resolutely to secure the fourth in 1:26.792. With jockey AFROZ KHAN giving a steady hand, trainer R.H.SEQUEIRA’s guidance proved right, and owner MR.Y.DAMODAR took the rewards. HUGH CAPET fought on bravely, while D MINCHU filled the minor place.

Race 5: THE S. N. REDDY MEMORIAL CUP (3:25pm, 1400 metres)

The fifth saw a stirring run from CAPE MAY, who drew clear in 1:28.666. It was a ride of precision from jockey MD EKRAM ALAM, a plan well-laid by trainer L D`SILVA, and a satisfying outcome for owner MR.M.RAMAKRISHNA REDDY. ILENE tried hard to bridge the gap, with N R I STAR hanging on for third.

Race 6: THE MAJOR GENERAL NAWAB KHUSRU JUNG BAHADUR MEMORIAL CUP (Division – I) (4:00pm, 1200 metres)

The penultimate contest kept the tension alive as RUNLIKETHEWIND showed fine resolve to prevail in 1:13.865. Jockey SONU KUMAR handled the mount with skill, trainer L D`SILVA’s input proved spot on, and owner M/S.BHARAT VENKAT EPUR & VAZHAPARMBIL JOHN JOSEPH could savour the success. BAISA pressed the pace, while FEDERER ran into the frame.

Race 7: THE MAJOR GENERAL NAWAB KHUSRU JUNG BAHADUR MEMORIAL CUP (Division – III) (4:35pm, 1200 metres)

The day closed in style, with ROMANTIC GREY producing a strong late surge to win in 1:14.271. Jockey AFROZ KHAN delivered the finishing touch, trainer L D`SILVA’s placement proved astute, and owner MR.SYED MOHIUDDIN MUFEED saw out the afternoon in triumph. CLEFAIRY kept up the fight, and PONTEFRACT stayed on for third.

As the Monsoon Meeting’s 17th day drew to a close, Hyderabad had once again shown why its racing calendar holds such charm – a blend of spirited competition, shifting skies, and stories unfolding race by race.
