In a dazzling display of horsemanship and breeding brilliance, Aidan O’Brien added yet another chapter to his extraordinary 2025 campaign when Precise (5-4 favourite) stormed to victory in the Group One bet365 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket. The two-year-old filly’s effortless win not only showcased her immense talent but also marked O’Brien’s record seventh triumph in this historic race.
The Ballydoyle maestro is now closing in on his own world record of 28 Group/Grade One winners in a single calendar year, set in 2017, and Precise’s performance hinted at a filly with Classic aspirations. Partnered by Christophe Soumillon, she settled at the rear of the ten-strong field before unleashing a powerful turn of foot in the final quarter-mile, effortlessly sweeping past her rivals to win by three and a quarter lengths from longshot Venetian Lace (40-1).
O’Brien, who also bred Precise through his Whisperview Trading operation, said: “She is incredible really. Every week she has improved. She would have been unbeaten if not for a small drift in her first run over six furlongs. She’s only a baby and has a lot more to give.”
The trainer highlighted Precise’s stamina and pedigree, noting she is out of a Galileo mare and likely to be a Classic filly. He also confirmed that both Precise and last weekend’s Prix Marcel Boussac heroine, Diamond Necklace, are being prepared with the Guineas in mind, with no further runs planned this season.
Soumillon, who rode Precise with evident admiration, added: “She cruised the whole way and when I asked her to go, she passed them like a train. She still has room to improve, and it’s exciting to see a filly of this calibre.”
With this win, Precise cements herself as one of the standout two-year-old fillies of the season, and O’Brien’s record-breaking year shows no signs of slowing down.F
