Ridden by Rob Hargreaves, the Irish-bred runner stayed on strongly in the closing stages to capture the Racing Excellence Series Finale. The contest developed into a competitive battle approaching the home turn, but Diplomatic Ash responded gamely when challenged and kept finding more after the last hurdle. Hargreaves produced a confident ride, timing his effort perfectly to ensure the gelding finished strongest of all in the Class 4 handicap.
At 6:39pm, the focus switched to chasing action in The Kalm Club @ Grange Festival Handicap Steeple Chase, where Captain Cool justified strong support with a determined display under promising rider Luke Scott. The Irish-trained chaser travelled smoothly throughout the two-mile-one-furlong contest and jumped accurately from fence to fence. Turning for home, Captain Cool moved into contention before asserting his authority in the final stages. Scott’s patient handling allowed the gelding to conserve energy before producing a decisive late challenge. The performance suggested Captain Cool remains in excellent form and capable of adding more victories during the season.
The 7:09pm feature chase, The Kalm Club @ Plumpton Handicap Steeple Chase, produced another memorable finish as Cher Monsieur stormed home under Conor O’Farrell. The French-bred runner looked comfortable from an early stage and delivered a fluent round of jumping in the two-mile-four-furlong contest. Staying power proved decisive again in the 7:39pm contest, The Kalm Club @ Welborne Cafe Handicap Hurdle Race, where Jubilant produced a determined display over three miles. Jonathan Burke settled the French-bred runner nicely through the early exchanges before making smooth progress down the back straight. Jubilant stayed on powerfully after the final hurdle and held off challengers in the run-in to claim victory in the Class 4 event. Burke’s calm ride played a key role as the gelding relished the stamina test on the evening ground conditions.
The penultimate race at 8:09pm, The Kalm Club – Everyone Welcome Handicap Hurdle Race, saw Goodwin Face emerge victorious in the Class 5 contest over the extended one mile and seven furlongs. Tom Cannon gave the French-bred runner a confident ride, keeping him in touch with the leaders before asking for an effort approaching the final hurdle. Goodwin Face responded strongly and quickened nicely on the run to the line to secure the win. The success provided Cannon with another notable Plumpton victory and rounded off an encouraging performance from the gelding.
The evening concluded with the Ladies Day at Season Opener Open National Hunt Flat Race at 8:39pm, where Scotto announced himself as a bumper prospect with a stylish performance under Jonathan Burke. The Irish-bred runner travelled comfortably throughout the two-mile-one-furlong contest and displayed an impressive turn of foot in the closing stages. Burke waited patiently before sending Scotto into the lead approaching the final furlong, and the gelding quickly stretched clear of the field to complete the card in emphatic fashion.
