From maiden hurdles to staying handicap events, the meeting showcased quality racing, determined rides and strong finishes in front of racegoers enjoying one of Scotland’s premier jump racing venues.
The action got underway at 2:18pm with The Horizon Group Maiden Hurdle Race (Class 4) over 2 miles and 138 yards. Scriabin (FR) emerged as the winner after producing a polished display. Ridden confidently by Patrick Wadge, the French-bred runner travelled smoothly throughout before asserting in the closing stages. The victory marked an encouraging breakthrough in maiden company and highlighted the horse’s potential for higher-grade hurdle races in the future.
The second contest at 2:48pm, The Kettle Produce Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 4) over the same distance, saw Pergamon (FR) deliver a determined performance under William Shanahan. The gelding was always positioned prominently and responded well when challenged approaching the final hurdle. Maintaining a strong gallop to the finish, Pergamon secured a well-deserved success, rewarding connections with a convincing handicap victory.
Attention then turned to chasing action in the 3:18pm Secure Air Parks Edinburgh Airport Parking Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4) over 2 miles, 4 furlongs and 114 yards. Button Rock (IRE) proved the strongest performer in the field with an assured round of jumping. Guided by Derek Fox, the Irish-bred chaser travelled comfortably before quickening clear after the final fence. Accurate jumping and a strong finish allowed Button Rock to record an impressive success in competitive company.
The 3:50pm PWA Architecture Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) over 2 miles, 4 furlongs and 147 yards produced another exciting finish. Fairly Fulling (IRE), partnered by Nathan Moscrop, showed plenty of determination to land the prize. Racing patiently during the early stages, the mare made steady progress before taking command late in the race. Her stamina proved decisive as she stayed on strongly to claim victory and continue her consistent run of form.
The feature staying chase at 4:25pm, The Horizon Parking UK’s Leading Parking Company Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 5) over 3 miles and 78 yards, went to The Flying Poet (IRE). With leading jockey Sean Bowen in the saddle, the experienced chaser produced one of the standout performances of the afternoon. Jumping fluently throughout the contest, The Flying Poet travelled with confidence before pulling clear in the closing stages. The victory demonstrated both stamina and jumping ability over the extended distance.
The meeting concluded with The AEJ Facilities Management Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) over 3 miles and 124 yards, where Dalileo (IRE) claimed the final race of the day under Peter Kavanagh. The staying contest demanded plenty of endurance, and Dalileo responded admirably, keeping on strongly after the final hurdle to secure victory. The performance highlighted the gelding’s staying credentials and provided connections with a satisfying success to round off the card.
Perth’s six-race programme offered a balanced mix of hurdle and steeplechase action, with each contest producing deserving winners and competitive finishes.
