PAU Delivers a Demanding Winter Test as Conditionals Dominate December Meeting

A competitive eight-race National Hunt meeting was staged at PAU on Wednesday, 24 December 2025, bringing together a solid field of conditional performers alongside a single claiming contest. The afternoon programme tested stamina and jumping ability over trips ranging from 3,500 metres to an extended 5,600 metres.

Racing unfolded smoothly from late morning into the afternoon, with several established stables recording notable successes and riders delivering measured, professional displays across the card.

The meeting opened with the Prix de Navarrenx at 11:52, a 3,500-metre conditional event worth €34,000. Tunisyа delivered a composed and controlled performance under Christopher Riou. Trained by J. Delaunay for Ecurie Delaunay, the winner travelled comfortably before asserting late to defeat N’Attendons Pas, who finished second after a steady effort.

Stamina was firmly to the fore in the Prix Mortimer de Lassence at 12:28, run over 5,600 metres and carrying prize money of €48,000. Hip Hop Conti proved equal to the challenge, with James Reveley producing a patient ride. The E. Clayeux-trained runner, representing Ecurie Patrick Joubert, finished strongly to secure victory, while Shawinigan stayed on for second.

The third race, the Prix Alfred Torrance at 13:05, was contested over 3,500 metres for €34,000. Magic Bede claimed a clear success under Gauvain Faivre-Picon. Trained by Gab. Leenders, the winner maintained good rhythm throughout and finished ahead of Malte de Solzen, who filled the runner-up position.

At 13:40, the Prix du Nebouzan, another €34,000 conditional event over 3,900 metres, provided further success for the Delaunay stable. Leader Conti, again partnered by Christopher Riou, controlled the contest effectively and finished with authority. Lutèce d’Arthel chased home the winner in second.

The Prix Alfonso de Portago at 14:15 was run over 3,900 metres with prize money of €34,000. Kiss Kiss emerged on top under Quentin Defontaine for trainer P. Quinton, representing Haras de Saint-Voir. Katovice delivered a consistent performance to secure second place.

The sole claiming race on the card, the Prix de Lembeye at 14:50, was contested over 3,800 metres for €19,000. Bistrot Has recorded a decisive success under Edgar Labaisse. Trained by N. Terrassin for owner Nicolas Terrassin, the winner finished ahead of Saint Bath, who took second.

Conditional honours continued in the Prix de Bielle at 15:32, a 3,500-metre event worth €32,000. Lamia d’Airy produced a fluent display under Anthony Renard, showing solid jumping and control throughout. The G. Fabre-trained runner defeated Lyre d’Oudairies, who stayed on for second.

The afternoon concluded with the Prix Fernand Roy at 16:07, another €34,000 conditional contest over 3,500 metres. Kind Lovely finished strongly to secure victory under Gabin Meunier. Trained by D. Bressou, the winner proved too strong late on for Kid of Storm, who completed the card in second place.

The meeting reflected the depth and consistency of Pau’s winter jumping programme, with conditional races dominating the schedule and several stables recording multiple placings across the afternoon.
