Once again hosting an afternoon of competitive flat racing, Nottingham Racecourse will stage a seven-race programme on Tuesday, 21 July, featuring apprentice, maiden, nursery and handicap contests across distances ranging from five furlongs to one mile and two furlongs. The fixture will offer prize money from £6,000 to £10,500 and will bring together a balanced mix of emerging talent and experienced handicappers, creating a varied afternoon of racing across every division.
Opening the programme will be The £9 Racedays at Nottingham Racecourse “Hands and Heels” Apprentice Classified Stakes (Class 6) at 2:45pm. Run over 1m 2f 56y for £6,000, the contest will provide apprentice jockeys with another valuable opportunity to showcase their skills while partnering experienced handicappers. The expected field will include Charencey, Myna, Nymphaea, Spaceage Love Song, Arc At Her and Hello Garda, with stamina expected to play an important role over the extended distance.
The action will continue at 3:15pm with The EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Class 4) (GBB Race). Worth £10,000 and contested over 6f 18y, the race will offer lightly raced fillies the chance to gain valuable experience and compete for a healthy prize fund. Baby G, Cercis, Hanaan, Honky Tonk Girl, March of Time and Mimime are expected to feature among the runners as the meeting moves into its second contest.
Attention will then switch to the juvenile division when The Watch Racing TV Now Nursery Handicap Stakes (Class 4) takes place at 3:45pm. The £8,000 contest over 5f 8y is expected to feature Glamorize, Location Location, Havana Gift and Our Fella. Although only four runners are due to line up, the race will provide an important test for young sprinters beginning their handicap campaigns.
Midway through the afternoon, The Dine in Sherwoods Restaurant Handicap Stakes (Class 6) will be run at 4:15pm over 1m 1f 6y with £6,600 on offer. Beauty Generation, Horwich, Katalyst, Sahm Naif, The Bureau Club and Takeitorleaveit are expected to contest the handicap, where consistency, stamina and tactical positioning will all be important factors across the intermediate trip.
One of the day’s valuable contests will arrive at 4:45pm with The Hospitality at Nottingham Racecourse Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (Class 4). Carrying £10,500 in prize money over 1m 81y, the race is expected to bring together Great Mates, Darzah, Distant Shore, Porth Eilian and Luna Celeste. The contest will provide progressive fillies with another opportunity to compete at a competitive level during the summer campaign.
The penultimate race will be The Construction Day 14th Oct Handicap Stakes (Class 5) at 5:15pm. The £8,000 event over 6f 18y is expected to attract Emperor Caradoc, Sixtygeesbaby, Hoodie Hoo, Jenever, Loquella and Logi Bear. The race will add further depth to the programme as sprinters and versatile handicappers compete over a demanding six-furlong trip.
Concluding the meeting, The RMG Proudly Supports Teenage Cancer Trust Handicap Stakes (Class 5) will take place at 5:50pm. Run over 5f 8y for £8,000, the closing sprint is expected to feature Mondammej, Squealer, Coyy, Velvet Goldmine and Come On Over. The final contest will round off the afternoon with another competitive field over the minimum distance.
