Set in the Avon Valley, Western Australia, the NORTHAM RACECOURSE welcomed connections and fans on Thursday, 6th November, with seven races scheduled from 11:12am to 3:00pm. The track was officially rated Good 4, giving every runner a fair contest. Today’s line-up featured everything from maiden hopefuls right through to benchmark Class 3 events and a standout Class 1 contest — a perfect opportunity for emerging talent and seasoned competitors alike to make their mark. With the local racing season in full flow, this meeting offered meaningful form-building and memorable moments.
Race 1: AFGRI EQUIPMENT MAIDEN (11:12am, 2200 metres)
INTO THE FUTURE took charge in 02:18.95, under a polished ride by jockey ROCKY CHEUNG. Trainer RYAN HILL had the horse primed, breeder MOGUMBER PARK saw their stock rewarded, and owner MR M J WILSON celebrated the opening victory. LEAD CINGA chased hard for second, while ROCKIN’ ROBIN stayed on well for third.
Race 2: SWAN DRAUGHT MAIDEN (11:52am, 1400 metres)
In the second contest, ADMIRE ASTRA delivered a strong finish to cross the line in 01:24.01. Jockey WILLIAM PIKE timed the run expertly, trainer SIMON A MILLER’s preparation paid off, breeder MR S HEARNDEN-HUNTER took satisfaction in the result, and owners MR S HEARNDEN-HUNTER, MR G J MCKINNON, MR S MCCAVANAGH, MRS B EDWARDS, MISS S L ALSAGOFF and MS C M GELA enjoyed a well-earned success. THE CRIMSON PIRATE held their effort for second and AITCH MONTANA claimed third with a steady finish.
Race 3: AVON VALLEY TOYOTA HANDICAP (12:28pm, 1000 metres)
The third race required extra resolve, and MAGNIQUE showed both stamina and sharpness to win in 00:57.97. Jockey LUCY FIORE’s measured ride, trainer SIMON A MILLER’s form setup, breeder MR J SMITH’s influence and owners MR B L MCROSTIE and MRS J M MCROSTIE’s pride all came together. THE LIONS’ GATE pressed until the line, while E GRANDHOMME held on for third.
Race 4: MAIDEN (1:05pm, 1100 metres)
Mid-card, & GABEX asserted themselves in the finish, clocking 01:04.40. Jockey JOEY AZZOPARDI balanced drive and patience, trainer SIMON A MILLER had the horse ready, breeder AHERN ASSET TRUST’s stock impressed and owners MR S A MILLER, MR X D FRANKLIN, MR R D MEADOWCROFT, MR P W JONES, MR R L MEADOWCROFT, MR B J MEADOWCROFT, MR A D MEADOWCROFT, MR K L MEADOWCROFT and MRS B D MEADOWCROFT took the result with joy. GODLESS STORM stayed close until late, and TENNESSEE SPIRIT rounded out the frame with credit.
Race 5: THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SPONSORS MAIDEN (1:43pm, 1300 metres)
The fifth event brought a deeper look, and ITZABEAST rose to the challenge, finishing in 01:17.55. Under jockey LUCY FIORE’s judgement and trainer BRIAN KERSLEY’s timing, breeder SCENIC LODGE THOROUGHBRED STUD’s result arrived and owners MR B W KERSLEY, MR I HARPER, MRS E HARPER and MS N M YOZZI celebrated. RISING FAME made a bold bid for second, while FINAL CALL stayed on for third.
Race 6: NORTHAM STAKES – 3 MAY 2026 HANDICAP (2:20pm, 1400 metres)
As the afternoon progressed, ESTA MIRANDO powered home in 01:23.03, guided by jockey WILLIAM PIKE and supported by trainer GRANT & ALANA WILLIAMS’s preparation. Breeder G & G BLOODSTOCK AUSTRALIA PTY LTD collected another winning line and owners MR G L WILLIAMS, MR E A GALANTE, MR G SIMS, FULL WALLETS EMPTY SACKS, MR F F FAIRTHORNE, MR B J GREENWOOD, THE GREY 8, MR R V WILSON, MR J ALBERTS, BIG GINGER, MR M G BROWN, MR A H DAY, HUNTER RACING STABLES, JUST SEND IT RACING, MR A D MACKINNON, MR M TOMLINSON, MR C TOMLINSON, MRS K TOMLINSON, MRS V VALENTINE and MS H SIFORD left pleased. ARTISTRY IN MOTION closed strongly for second, while AHREA maintained momentum for third.
Race 7: AND THAT’S A WRAP FOR 2025 HANDICAP (3:00pm, 1300 metres)
The final race wrapped the meeting on a high as GOLDEN KATHLEEN surged late to win in 01:17.34. Jockey JOEY AZZOPARDI delivered under pressure, trainer DONNA RIORDAN’s setup proved perfect, breeder MRS A CROUCHER added another win and owners MR T G KENYON and MR A T KENYON left smiling. SILENT DIVA ran a gutsy second’s effort, while STRAPPING PROPHET secured third with determination.
Today’s afternoon at Northam brought a refreshing blend of emerging promise and established form — all performed under crisp autumn skies in a setting full of character.
