By | 30 Aug 2026 | Mumbai

Niigata Racecourse will welcome another afternoon of Japanese racing on Sunday, August 30, with an 11-runner card offering a varied programme for followers of the sport. The meeting will provide a mixture of established performers and emerging talent, while the Niigata Racecards 30 August will give plenty of attention to the day’s 2000-metre contest.

The Niigata Kinen (G3) will be the race to watch, with 2000 metres ahead of the field and ¥82,350,000 in total prize money available. Scheduled for 15:45pm, the contest will require more than a sharp turn of foot; patience, pace judgement and stamina will all have their say. Over this trip, getting the timing right will matter almost as much as having the speed to finish the job.

The 11-runner line-up will include several experienced jockeys, adding another layer of interest to the contest. Christophe Lemaire, Hironobu Tanabe, Kenichi Ikezoe, Yuga Kawada and Keita Tosaki will all take mounts, while the field will provide a useful test of different racing styles over the middle-distance journey.

Race Details

The Niigata Kinen (G3) will take place at Niigata Racecourse on August 30, with the scheduled start time set for 15:45pm. The race will cover 2000 metres and will carry ¥82,350,000 in total prize money.

Born This Way, Savona, Rodeo Drive, Durezza and Zoroastro will form the first half of the field. Rodeo Drive will have Christophe Lemaire aboard, while Durezza will be partnered by Hironobu Tanabe. Savona will have Kenichi Ikezoe in the saddle, with Zoroastro set to be ridden by Mirai Iwata and Born This Way partnered by Genki Maruyama.

The 2000-metre journey will require a measured approach, particularly through the early stages. The runners will need to conserve enough energy for the closing section, where pace judgement and positioning could become increasingly important.

The first five runners will also bring different levels of experience into the contest. Rodeo Drive will face the 2000-metre distance for the first time after winning the NHK Mile Cup earlier in the year, making the step up in trip one of the notable points of interest. Durezza and Savona will provide further depth to the opening half of the field.

Niigata Racecards 30 August: Runners to Watch

Cervinia, Jun Blossom, Danon Cima, Urban Chic, Ballet Master and Stellenbosch will make up the remaining six runners. Danon Cima will have Yuga Kawada aboard, while Stellenbosch will be partnered by Keita Tosaki. Cervinia will have Akihide Tsumura in the saddle, with Jun Blossom, Urban Chic and Ballet Master completing the second half of the field.

Ballet Master will bring previous experience over the 2000-metre distance, having finished second in the Niigata Daishoten (G3) over the same trip in May. That familiarity with the distance will provide a useful reference heading into Sunday’s contest.

The remaining names, Jun Blossom and Urban Chic, will add further variety to the line-up. Jun Blossom will be partnered by Makoto Sugihara, while Urban Chic will have Kosei Miura aboard. Their ability to settle during the early stages before producing a sustained finish could become important if the race develops into a tactical affair. With 11 runners engaged, positioning should remain an important consideration throughout. A controlled pace could place greater emphasis on acceleration in the final stages, while a stronger tempo would test the runners’ stamina over the full 2000 metres.

The jockeys will therefore have plenty to consider, from conserving energy early to choosing the right moment to make a move. In a field of this size, there should be enough room for tactical variation, but an untimely move could prove costly.

The Niigata Kinen will consequently provide a useful examination of pace, stamina and racecraft, with the final stages expected to determine which runner has handled the 2000-metre journey most effectively.

The Niigata Racecards 30 August will feature an 11-runner field for the Niigata Kinen (G3), with the 2000-metre contest scheduled for 15:45pm on August 30 and Rodeo Drive, Durezza and Savona among the runners to follow.
