By | 19 May 2026 | Mumbai

With the evening session approaching on the North East all-weather stage, Newcastle Racecourse will stage a seven-race programme on Tuesday, 19 May on the Tapeta surface, featuring a broad mix of staying handicaps, sprint contests, novice events and maiden action. The Newcastle Race Cards 19 May will bring together competitive fields across distances from 5f to 2m 56y, with prize money ranging between £6,200 and £12,000. All races will be run in future tense as the fixture is yet to take place, with steady Tapeta conditions expected throughout the meeting.

Setting the tone for the card, the opening contest at Newcastle Racecourse will be the Celebrating 10 Years of Tapeta at Newcastle Apprentice Handicap Stakes (Class 6) going to post at 2:30pm over 2m 56y, with £6,200 on offer. Seven runners will line up: Lady Phoebe, Stitching Wheel, Angelardo, Edwardtheninth, Nymphaea, Star of Jupiter and Ebendi. The extended trip will demand endurance, with riders expected to conserve energy before the long run to the line.

Moving deeper into the middle-distance programme, the Mini Golf at High Gosforth Park Fillies’ Novice Stakes (Class 3, GBB/GBBPlus Race) will be staged at 3:00pm over 1m 4f 98y, offering £12,000 in prize money. Maneater, The Lakes, Danseuse, Hello Friend, La Tosca, Littlecote and Ticker Tape will compete. Several runners will step up in trip, making stamina and race rhythm important factors.

Turning to the juvenile action, the Sunday Lunch at the Border Minstrel Maiden Stakes (Class 4, GBB Race) will be run at 3:30pm over 6f, with £10,000 available. Big Cigar, Caeruleus, Capilano, Dorigo, Lehbab Prince, Martial Order and Real Trouble will feature. This race will provide an early-season indicator of two-year-old sprint potential.

Switching focus to a sharp sprint contest, the In Loving Memory of Yvonne Rush Novice Stakes (Class 4, GBB Race) will go to post at 4:00pm over 5f, carrying £10,000 in prize money. Zain Primus, April Diamond, Gold Digger, Forest Phoenix, Project Wallace, Qila and Roy Lane will compete. Early pace and a clean break will prove essential over the minimum distance.

Building intensity in a large-field handicap sprint, the Book Say When Ladies Day Tickets Handicap Stakes (Class 6) will take place at 4:35pm over 5f, with £6,200 on offer. A 12-runner field will include Houndhill, Brave Traveller, Golden Havana, With Glory, Oasis Cover, Zoustar Dreams and Ryefield. Race positioning will be critical given the crowded field and short sprint distance.

Continuing the action with a tactical fillies’ handicap, the Book Northumberland Plate Day Tickets Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (Class 5) will be run at 5:05pm over 6f, offering £7,600 in prize money. Maldevious, Annie Edson Taylor, Concert, Hen Party, Too Much, Blue Nguru, Tashi Delek and Fizzy Cristal will headline the field. The contest is expected to develop into a tactical battle where pace judgement will matter.

Bringing the fixture to a competitive close, the Newcastle Tapeta Enabling Champions Since 2016 Handicap Stakes (Class 5) will conclude the card at 5:35pm over 7f 14y, with £7,600 on offer. Lord Capulet, King’s School, Atmosphere, The Green Man, Yaajooz, Blazing Son and Red Mirage will be among 13 runners. Stamina and strong finishing effort will likely decide the outcome in the final furlongs.

The Newcastle Race Cards 19 May will deliver a balanced Tapeta fixture featuring competitive handicaps, juvenile contests and staying races across the afternoon at Newcastle Racecourse.
