July Racing at Newbury Begins with Six-Race Evening Fixture

With another busy evening waiting in the wings, Newbury Racecourse will host a competitive six-race Flat meeting on Thursday, 2 July, with the opening contest scheduled for 6:15pm and the finale due at 9:00pm. The fixture will feature a balanced mix of handicaps and novice contests, with prize money ranging from £11,000 to £14,000 and competitive fields expected throughout the programme.

The evening programme will commence with the Sequoia Hair & Beauty Group Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over 1m 2f 7y at 6:15pm. Eleven runners will contest the £11,000 event, with Morcar, Kimeko Glory, Harlington, Ablon, Perfect Scoundrel and Brighlee among those expected to line up in the opening race of the evening.

Attention will then shift to the juvenile fillies in the Gracelands EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (Class 4) (GBB Race) at 6:50pm. Run over six furlongs, the £12,000 contest has attracted 14 runners, including Art of Life, Avalon Queen, Bymiddaytomorrow, Fillipas, Gravastar and Kiah, ensuring one of the largest fields on the programme.

The novice division will remain in focus when the Fidelity Energy Green Future Novice Stakes (Class 4) takes centre stage at 7:25pm. Eleven runners will compete over six furlongs for £12,000, with Alaskan Bear, Coatimundi, Hackpen Hill, Jimtrott, Magi Melchior and Noahs Gold among those expected to go to post.

The feature contest of the evening will arrive next with the World Cup Super Boosts Handicap Stakes (Class 4) over seven furlongs at 8:00pm. The £14,000 event has attracted a maximum field of 15 runners, including Huscal, Gallant, Best Rate, Herculeus, Melvin Udall and Stratocracy, making it the biggest race on the card.

The penultimate race on the card will provide another competitive test in the Local IQ Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over one mile at 8:30pm. Five runners are expected to contest the £11,000 race, namely Thanos, Lucky Luna, Drymee, Del Corso and Venturing.

The curtain will come down on the meeting with the Pump Technology Apprentice Handicap Stakes (Class 5) at 9:00pm. Covering 5f 34y for £11,000, the closing sprint will feature nine runners, including Merrimack, Over Spiced, Truly Glamorous, Artista, Life After Love and Just Jump, bringing the evening programme to its conclusion.

Newbury’s Thursday fixture will offer a well-balanced evening of Flat racing, combining competitive handicaps with informative novice contests across a variety of distances. Healthy field sizes and attractive prize funds will ensure a busy and competitive programme from the opening race through to the final sprint.
