Hungerford Stakes Will Head the Newbury Race Cards 15 August
The Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes will provide a high-quality seven-furlong examination, with the compact field set to face a demanding test of pace and positioning. The £165,000 Group 2 race will form an important part of the Newbury programme and will bring together nine runners with a range of racing experience.
Back In Black (Daniel Muscutt) will take his place in the field, while Never So Brave (David Probert) will also feature among the declared runners. Prince of India (Pat Dobbs) will complete another pairing for the contest and will line up over the seven-furlong trip.
Symbol of Honour (William Buick) will bring considerable interest to the field, with the experienced William Buick set to take the ride. Witness Stand (Saffie Osborne) will also contest the Group 2 event, while Coppull (Hector Crouch) will add further depth to the nine-runner line-up.
Extremely Zain (Tom Marquand) will be partnered by Tom Marquand, who will bring further experience to the contest. Northern Champion (Ashley Lewis) will also take his place, while Sukanya (Rob Hornby) will complete the field.
The seven-furlong distance will demand a measured balance between early speed and finishing strength. With only nine runners declared, tactical positioning will be particularly significant as the field approaches the closing stages of the Group 2 feature.
The Hungerford Stakes will also sit prominently within a Saturday programme that will include the Geoffrey Freer Stakes. The meeting will therefore offer a strong combination of middle-distance and seven-furlong racing at Newbury.
