Seasoned performer Gunsmoke proved too strong in the fifth race of Pune’s Special Race Day, annexing The Nana Raghunath Salver (1600m) with authority on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Carrying top weight of 61.5 kg, the grey colt was partnered confidently by Yash Narredu for trainer M. Narredu and returned a winning time of 1:39.839.
Star Romance, ridden by S. G. Prasad for Sangramsinh N. Joshi, offered late resistance but had to settle for second place, more than two lengths behind. Giant Gold (Aditya Waydande for Shazaan Shah) finished third, while Looking Like A Wow and Luca filled the frame but never really threatened the winner.
Gunsmoke, by Havana Gold (IRE) out of Belliflore (FR), races in the colours of Mrs. B. E. Saldanha, Mrs. Rashmee A. Amersay (rep So Blest Trading Co Pvt Ltd), Mr. Achuthan Siddharth, Mr. Rohit J. Patel, Mr. Vivek S. Jain, Mr. Balam Mohla, Mr. Homi Mehta, Mr. Jehangir Mehta & Mr. Roopesh M. Kaul (rep Phantom Racing LLP). The winner was bred by Five Stars Shipping Co Pvt Ltd.
This solid effort added another success to Gunsmoke’s record and highlighted his ability to handle the mile trip comfortably. The action now builds towards the sixth race of the afternoon, The Darius Byramji Trophy, set to be run at 4:40 pm.
