Nakayama Builds to G2 Climax as American Jockey Club Cup Anchors Sunday Card

Sunday racing at Nakayama Racecourse will present a comprehensive twelve-race programme, bringing together early-season contests for younger horses, competitive events for older runners, and a Grade 2 feature at the heart of the card. The Nakayama Race Cards 25 January will span distances from 1200 metres to 2200 metres, ensuring a varied and well-balanced afternoon of racing.

The meeting on 25 January will unfold from mid-morning through to late afternoon, with several races restricted to three-year-olds opening proceedings before the schedule gradually builds towards higher-value contests later in the day. Prize money will increase steadily across the programme, culminating in one of the most prestigious races of the winter season.

The card will begin at 10:05 with Race 1, a 1200m contest for three-year-olds worth ¥11,280,000. Tonton Byoshi, S C Kay Me and Kitano Don Carlo will be among the first runners expected to take to the track. Race 2 at 10:35 will move up to 1800m for the same age group, also carrying prize money of ¥11,280,000, with Mascarpone, Revendal and Gempachi Misty listed among the entries.

At 11:05, Race 3 will return to 1200m for three-year-olds, where Ito Hammer, Seika Yuhi and Bobbinet will be set to line up for another ¥11,280,000 prize. Race 4 at 11:35 will be staged over 1800m and will offer increased prize money of ¥12,330,000. Top of the King, Lauter Jubel and Tosen Amuse will headline the runners in that contest.

The morning sequence will conclude with Race 5 at 12:25, a 2000m event for three-year-olds worth ¥12,330,000, featuring Rouge Dazzling, Gonfaloniere and Ace of Gold.

Older horses will take over from Race 6 at 12:55, an 1800m contest open to four-year-olds and upwards with prize money of ¥15,620,000. Breguet Un, Sakai Shooter and Parvenu will be expected participants. At 13:25, Race 7 will be run over 1600m for older horses, carrying a purse of ¥22,690,000. Forlanini, Argent and Straight Talker will be among the notable names on the card.

Race 8 will follow at 13:55 over 1200m, also for four-year-olds and above and worth ¥22,690,000, with Hermes, Hard Seltzer and Lava Glow set to contest the sprint.

The Wakakake Sho will be staged as Race 9 at 14:25, a 1800m contest for three-year-olds offering ¥22,120,000 in prize money. Blaenavon, Taiki Ruggero and Dona Rumba will be among the expected runners.

The afternoon will continue with Race 10, the Edogawa Stakes, at 15:00. Run over 1200m for older horses, the race will carry prize money of ¥36,050,000, with Unaginobori, Shonan Obvious and Happy London heading the entries.

The highlight of the meeting will arrive at 15:45 with Race 11, the American Jockey Club Cup (Grade 2). Contested over 2200m and open to four-year-olds and upwards, the feature will offer a substantial ¥120,100,000 purse. Chuck Nate, Ho O No Side and Meiner Emperor will be among the leading contenders.

The programme will conclude at 16:25 with Race 12, a 1600m contest for three-year-olds worth ¥11,280,000. Amethyst Tesoro, Crystal Dress and Logi Skaya will bring the curtain down on the day’s racing.
