The historic and highly regarded Musselburgh Racecourse, one of Scotland’s most established Flat racing venues, will host a competitive six-race afternoon programme on Friday, 5 June. Offering more than £62,000 in total prize money, the fixture will feature a diverse mix of handicaps, novice contests and sprint races, providing opportunities for horses ranging from two-year-old newcomers to experienced older campaigners.
The action will begin with the Reichhartinger Rush Handicap (Class 5) at 1:50pm. Seven runners will contest the staying event over 1m 7f 217y for a prize fund of £10,000. Velvet Whisper, Kisiyra, Simple Star, Spit Spot, Elemental Eye, Cascade Hall and Star of Markinch are scheduled to line up in a race that will place a strong emphasis on stamina.
At 2:25pm, attention will switch to the EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Class 4). The six-runner contest for two-year-olds will be run over 7f 15y and will carry prize money of £12,000. Mr Minz, Time For The Moon, Tribal Appearance, Odegaard, Amantha and Heldobeldo are among the youngsters set to take part as connections look to gain valuable early-season experience.
The Construction & Property Recruitment Handicap (Class 5) will follow at 3:00pm. Run over 7f 15y and restricted to three-year-olds, the race has attracted a field of ten runners. Born A Star, Sandy Craic, Homestrait, Wise Crack, Highland Shah, Stoic Poet and Yorkshire Queen are among the expected participants in what will be one of the larger fields on the card.
A competitive-looking Keith Mitchell Law Accountants Handicap (Class 5) will take place at 3:40pm. Covering 1m 208y and worth £10,000, the race will feature a field of eight runners. Amidst The Chaos, Poet’s Dawn, Union Island, Motawaared, Starliner, Dingwall and Mayor of Maghera are all expected to contest the middle-distance handicap.
The pace will increase significantly in the Edinburgh Handicap (Class 4) at 4:15pm. Eight runners are set to tackle the sharp 5f 1y sprint, with £12,000 on offer. Tiva, Right And Exact, I’m Next, Curious Rover, Miss Brazen, Lion’s House and Woohoo are among those expected to go to post in a race that will provide one of the afternoon’s quickest tests.
The meeting will conclude with the Scotland Handicap (Class 6) at 4:50pm. Six three-year-olds will compete over 1m 2y for a purse of £8,000. Mereside Princess, Longevity, Lope Y Linda, Saxon Gem, Bobbys Pride and Royal Baroness are scheduled to line up in the finale.
Friday’s programme will showcase a broad range of racing disciplines, from juvenile development races to established handicaps. The combination of sprint contests, middle-distance events and staying races will ensure a varied afternoon for participants and racegoers alike at the East Lothian venue.
