Nestled on Scotland’s historic east coast, the picturesque Musselburgh Racecourse will stage a competitive seven-race flat programme on Friday, 31 July, with racing scheduled from 5:45pm to 8:55pm. The evening fixture will feature a balanced mix of handicaps, juvenile contests and a staying event, with prize money ranging from £7,000 to £13,000 across the card.
The opening contest, THE EDINBURGH CHILDRENS HOSPITAL CHARITY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6), will get underway at 5:45pm over 1m 5f. The race will offer £7,000 in prize money for 10 runners aged 4YO and above, with Mr Withington, Gemini Man, Jedhi Knight, Sophiesticate, Storm On Jura and Ivynator expected to feature in the opening staying contest of the evening.
Attention will then turn to THE EBF RESTRICTED MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) at 6:15pm. Run over 7f 15y, the £11,000 juvenile maiden for 2YO horses will feature five runners, including Coul Blue, Hey Up Ronnie, Nosey Book, Thai Paddy and Gerry’s Darling. The contest will provide another valuable opportunity for young horses to begin their racing careers.
The third race on the programme, THE BERNARD HUNTER MOBILE CRANES NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6), will be staged at 6:50pm over 7f 15y. Carrying £8,000 in prize money, the nursery handicap for 2YO runners will include Bigalo, Boutblummintime, Amantha, Bluestone Lady, Aurora Valkyrie and Liveadream among the expected field.
A competitive sprint will follow at 7:25pm in THE BERNARD HUNTER METAL RECYCLING HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4). The 5f 1y contest for horses aged 3YO and above will be worth £13,000, making it the richest race on the card. Jer Batt, Mighty Magnus, Francisco’s Piece, Montezuma and Curious Rover are expected to line up in the fast-paced handicap.
The fifth race, THE EAST AIR CONDITIONING HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6), will be run at 7:55pm over 7f 15y for horses aged 4YO and above. The contest will carry £7,000 in prize money and is expected to feature Braes of Doune, King Sharja, April Diamond, Sanditon, Monhammer and Misemerald in another competitive handicap.
Stayers will return to the track at 8:25pm in THE LENS SELF STORAGE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5). Covering 1m 7f 217y, the race will offer £9,000 in prize money for seven runners aged 4YO and above. Inappropriate, Teofimo, Clansman, Arrange, Simple Star and Gallus Norman are among those expected to contest the longest race of the meeting.
The meeting will conclude at 8:55pm with THE GRAHAM + SIBBALD AND NEILSONS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) over 5f 1y. The closing sprint for horses aged 3YO and above will carry £7,000 in prize money and will feature Thornaby Pearl, Thunderstorm Katie, Peregrine Falcon, Golden Havana, South Parade and Wee Mary as the expected runners.
The Musselburgh Race Cards 31 July meeting will provide an enjoyable evening of flat racing, featuring seven races that combine juvenile contests, competitive handicaps and a staying event at Musselburgh Racecourse.
